I haven't really been able to find this on the forum so I wanted to ask. Most of the time when I see West German lines mentioned it is in regards to show lines. Are West German lines ever working lines or do they sort of blend together and fall under the generalized showline category?
There are *plenty* of good West German working lines ( Ed has had a good enough eye as a serious working dog breeder to have used some of the West German stock in his breedings to good results in the past )
Thanks Betty and Will, I thought so but was not sure since I never see West German working lines mentioned the way DDR, Czech, and showlines (american and West German) always are. So I guess my West German pup is just a 'default' working line heh.
Hi Magdalena Ciepla, I actually asked a similar question a while back when I was inquiring information towards a recent purchase of a West German line GSD female. I have been a owner, handler, trainer & breeder of Malinios for 6 years now & I will say, My West German Shepherd work just a well as my mal. They equal in ability, drives but just have different personalities. She has truly change my opinion about GSD's & I am now looking forward to a future with more of her linage. Devotion like now other!

Pup 'Fred' is G.G.son of Nick vom Heiligenbosch. plus a g.gson of Tom van t Leefdaalhof
The other Pup Goran is bred to Fero Zeutener Himmelreich, and he is also a G.gson to Yoschy von der Dollenwiese
Just for interest
Please bear with me, trying to learn(I'm a Mal person)....what are the biggest differences in working abilities, character traits and drives of the three sheperds? What is your preference and why?
