Well, it's been 3 long weeks (not sure if they were longer for him or longer for me, lol) but Stark has found a home. He will be departing on Sunday, once his new family returns from vacation. Being a Psycho Nutrition Nazi, I thought I was going to have a much harder time finding someone suitable. This dog had brown teeth and no waist when he arrived; now, he has a definite waist (maybe needs to drop 1-2 lbs more) and several totally white teeth, and the rest are getting there.
Through word of mouth, Steve Zorn heard about this couple whose dog had just passed away at 15 (good sign for a GSD!). He remained intact, had minimal shots, and ate whatever they were eating. Oh, and he drank Evian. Sooo, I think Mr.Stark will be in good hands, and his health will continue to improve. He won't receive any more shots, they will not board him when they vacation, they will feed him THK and raw (which I will be providing them with and coaching them on), and he will drink bottled or purified water. Couldn't ask for more for the second half of this guy's life. So, thanks to everyone who was involved, thanks Marj , thanks to those who sent money, and offered to send money to feed him and get him here, and thanks Steve for passing on their names and helping them meet Stark. If only this dog knew how many people were concerned about him and helped him out. He might change his tune !
I'm hoping his new owners will join the forum for raw tips and general support...he can be a trial, but he's a good dog overall. I think he's just starved for attention and confused at being displaced so late in life. He really seemed to get along with both of them, and the woman took him for a long walk by herself, and reported that they got along great. They're very excited about him, and I'm confident that they'll give him the life he deserves-forever.

How beautiful. I hope we get to hear more about him from his new owners. A dog being uprooted so late in life tugs at my heartstrings - gets me emotional. That was the case with my last GSD, Sierra, whom I got when she was 9, having lived with one family the whole time. After a short time, it was as if she was with me her whole life, both for her and for me, so I'm sure Stark will be fine and happy.
Great and wonderful job, Jenni. Her new owners sound perfect. Is there anything in force between you and the new owners that they can bring him back to you, just in case?

Of course. I said I'd pick him up at any time if he was more than they bargained for (which I don't think he will be; he just is desperate for some security right now, and really doesn't handle stress the way working lines do...he's pretty nervous.) I think between me living within 20mins to help w/food and/or behavior, and joining the board, they'll be just fine.

That is great news Jenni. Changing homes for a dog is hard. I just saw a dog on Sat, who I helped place. She went through 4 homes in 9 mos (at no fault of her own), she looked great. I'm glad things turned out so well for Stark as well.

Nice work Jenni.
The fact that you will be able to provide some ongoing support in the training and nutrition department is phenomenal
