Hi, Marty,
Did you know that there is a forum here dedicated to that subject?
But I suggest you read some of the many informative thread here. You can get a whole education.... and you should, because ultimately, you must make the decisions.
Wanted to mention this thing that occurred with neighbors dog for those who don't choose to get required rabies. You might think it's only a big deal if your dog bites someone which of course you would never let it do, but... Neighbor found dead squirrel in yard and called dept of health. They picked up squirrel and had it tested, and it was positive for rabies. They quarrantined their dog for 8 months because the dog was unvaccinated. They couldn't even pet the dog during that time. It was sad. Plus they had to pay for the quarrantine on a per day basis. Not sure why it was so long, would figure the incubation wasn't that long.
At this point rabies is pretty much all I'm getting for my dogs because I travel to Canada a lot and some of the border Agents don't like me and don't want to give them an excuse to not let us in. They are inside dogs and don't socialize.

In dog bite cases in the US the animal is only quaranteened for 10 days, maybe in this case the county needed money and an 8 month sentence was a way to make an example of these people and rake in a thousand dollars or more for the treasury.
