My black Bouvier has a red tinge on her coat. It looks sunburned but I read that it could be something to do with mineral loss. Early summer, she chewed a spot on her from a flea allergy and it grew back in beautifully black and healthy. But the rest of her coat is growing out reddish and she was shaved down pretty close a few months ago so I thought it would come back nice also. She's on a raw diet (chicken necks, quarters, liver, kidneys, fish, hamburger) w/glucosamine, kelp, alfalfa, vit E, C and has been on it over a year, maybe two. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do for it?
i did see a product on the net just recently that is formulated especially for this. i'll be darned if i can find it now, but i'll keep looking. maybe in the meantime somebody else will come up with it. seems to me it was attributed to a mineral deficiency. i know there is something out there, though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the advice. I'll get the Seameal. I thought the kelp and alfalfa would be enough but after reading the info on seameal, maybe she needs the rest of what's in it. I hope it works!
there is also a horse supplement called "black as knight." it is supposed to make any coat richer, but especially darkens blacks. i went so far as to order it for my horses, but the site was down that day, so I had to wait and then it just never happened.
Anyway, I have heard great things about this product, but the main ingredient is paprika, and many people just feed the paprika, it's a lot cheaper, and does the job great. It doesn't happen immediately, the new hair has to grow in and everything, so don't expect results overnight, but you might want to try adding a teaspoon daily.
As an update, I've tried the seameal and it seems to be doing a good job. It's grown out blacker under the red. I may have been underfeeding the supplements that I gave her before. Wrong size measuring spoon. I ran out of Seameal and tried the Black as Knight. She threw it up the first night and refuses to eat it. I think it might be too spicy. The other two dogs don't mind it so it won't go to waste. I'll be going back to the Seameal for her.
Thank you all for your advice.
