I start an explosives detection class, October 1, 2007. I'll have 5 teams with a projected graduation date of January 18, 2008. three of the dog I recieved from the Gifted Animal Placement program; http://www.gapdogs.org/ The class will consist of 1 Mal, 1 Dutchie mix (for lack of better description) and 3 Labs. It's funny how time flies. I figure this will be my last EDD class. I start my last patrol dog class in February, and probably my last drug class in September of 08. It looks like retirement in April of 09.

Retirement in 09! That sounds great to me.
I must wait a bit longer, it will be early 2011 probably.
Unless the new bill in the legislature goes through and then i will be pretty much have to stick out another 2 years. It would supply free health care until 65. Hard to pass that up in light of the cost of insurance.
But, hey i am sure we could find you a class to teach now and again if you miss it!!
Our current retirement, while not the greatest among law enforcement, does include our health care. I can keep the same BC/BS I currently have. I just have to pay 20% which isn't bad at all. Retirement comes with mixed emotions. I still have the same passion for the job I've always had, I just don't have the energy I used to have. You know the old saying; If I would have known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

By the way Kevin, I met a person that knows you. I'm sorry I've forgotten her name. She in the west part of the state working with one of the FEMA SAR trainers. I met her, watched her dog work a little and offered a minor suggestion on helping the dog's response (it was a SAR Malanois) She was from Los Alomos, asked if I knew you. I told her only by reputation, but we had talked on a message board. She said you decoy for their Schutzhund club.

Peanut sniffing dog. I know not really the same as bomb or drug sniffing dogs but I'd like to see if we can do it. I have a great dog with a lot of drive and I'm trying to find someone in The Temecula California area that might help me with the training. I have a high drive lab that I think would be great at it. Anyone with experince that would be willing to help would be greatly appreciated.
Send an email to GAP and ask them the particulars of the peanut dog. I'm supposing you saw the one on their website. They are extremely helpful. Tell them I sent you and said howdy. They'll howdy you back with no problem.
