anyone awake out there? I am up with a sick dog. Since midnight he has thrown up four times and been outside with diarrhea 4 times. No blood in the stool and the vomit looks to be largely undigested food, getting waterier each time. Is there anything I can give him to help him feel better right now?

If you have an emergency animal clinic open 24 hours, I'd take him there and not wait for the regular hours vet to open its doors. Make sure he stays hydrated, offer fresh clean water. I wouldn't try to treat the vomiting with any type of medication until he's seen. Did he get into anything earlier, swallow anything, lick anything, antifreeze?
It could be any number of things, here's a site that lists a few causes: http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/clientED/vomiting.asp

I'll second Sandy on the emergency clinic, particularly if the vomiting and diarrhea are still going on. If he's dehydrated they may put him on IV fluids and medication, which will give his gut a rest.
Could you tell from the vomit if he's been been eating anything other than his food?

I had an identical incident occur about a month or so ago. The vet never did figure out what it was, but the dogs were lethargic and both were vomiting and had diarrhea. It cleared up within a few days of the vet visit after having been injected with fluids and given some anti-biotics. I'd definitely get him to a vet.
Hope your boy is okay.

Sorry, I was trying to get a little sleep. He hasn't thrown up since 3:30, but has gone to the bathroom 4 times. I couldn't see anything unusual in his vomit. The stool is like watery gruel, not much each time, just a squirt. Noisy and forceful. He isn't really lethargic, still wags but looks concerned. I think my vet is open today, I'm getting ready to call.

As a thought, there has been a parvo outbreak in my area, he was vaccinated for that though. is there any way he could still get it? I had a dog with parvo once before but she had blood in her stool so I have been checking his closely with a flashlight all night. No blood at all.
He also has a history of eating socks. It has been a while since he has thrown one up, we try to watch him but with teenagers in the house it's hard to keep them away from him. Could a sock cause this? My vet opens in half an hour and I am going to take him in.
Thanks

I would just get him to a vet as soon as possible. I do believe it's possible to get Parvo even after being vaccinated. I know it is with many of the things that they vaccinate for.

Yes, a sock could cause it. Obstructions of the stomach are mentioned in the link I gave you above.

Well I just got back. He doesn't think it is anything serious. Leonidas's temp was normal, he doesn't appear to have abdominal pain, no blood in stool. He thinks he may have eaten something that didn't agree with him and caused him to have "a blowout" in his words. He said to give him some yogurt and watch him. He put me on his emergency call list so if Leo has any further problems I can reach him at home. Said to skip breakfast but let him have water.
The thing for me is, it seems to have been MY disturbing vet visit. Up until about 4 months ago when I joined this forum I was an uneducated lemming when it came to vets. I never questioned them, did what I was told, got my animals vaccinated, had then spade or neutered young, etc.
When we were talking I mentioned that I had looked on a website (not his one, no one else was online) that said to not give him anything by mouth but ice cubes for 12 hours. He looked at me kinda funny and said "well i guess I learned something".
Then we were talking about his eating and I mentioned that I don't feed him any wheat or corn products, he asked me shy. When I told him They were hard on dogs digestion and could contribute to allergies he said "oh, I guess your smarter than me". I was shocked, and said "no, your the expert", to which he replied something about they have done lots of allergy testing and corn & wheat never come up, but he doesn't have the benefit of an "internet education" like me. At this point I just shut up, paid the bill and left. Not sure if he was as disrespectful as he sounded, or thought he was being sarcastically funny, but it felt like I was being put down and talked down to.
I may be looking for a new vet next week.
