Hey,
Here goes....this sounds like an idiotic question but...what is considered normal for frequency of bowel movements a day for a dog?
My new shelter rescue is a pit mix. She is pretty lean/leggy, and I believe that she has a lean build. But, she looks like she could use a few "groceries!"
She poops 3 times a day. Does that mean I'm feeding her too much?
Right now she is fed 2x/day. Either one Natures Variety Raw Pattie, or one cup of their kibble with a few scoops of canned per feeding.
Once a week approx she gets an egg and or raw chicken heart/liver/gizzards. She is also supplemented with VitE, Grizzly Salmon oil and Nupro powder.

I never thought about getting info on this but I'm interested to see the responses. I have a mature pure lap who poops approx. 7 times a day and a dutch shepherd pup who goes 4 times. I think the lab goes too much. Sometimes I clean up two full piles when I let her out first thing in the morning.

Chicken Soup natural recommended on this website. The lab is slightly overweight. I'm working on that but she still goes that many times. The stools are firm. I've even restricted her rawhide bone intake to once in awhile.

I'm feeding 5 cups per day. She gets fed 2 times a day. She is healthy in every way. She has never been sick. She is run every day. This morning I cleaned up three poops. She was out 1 time for 10 minutes. I don't have a clue what this might have to do with it but this all started when I put down my 12 year old Rott and got the new pup. The Rott was her lifelong companion. She hates the pup. I keep them separated at all times. The pup is way to aggressive for her.
Chicken Soup is a great food (for kibble), but maybe it is not the best one for your lab.
My dogs here that are on that, do not go near what you are saying yours goes. If she is a little on the heavy side, you could back off by a 1/2 to a cup of food.
I am assuming you are feeding the recommended amount on the back of the bag?

I agree with Carol. 5 cups sounds like an awful lot of kibble. When I have fed kibble, I've never fed more than 3 cups a day total (one was a GSD, one was a lab/pointer mix).
Mine goes twice a day - morning & evening - like clockwork. Feed her twice a day. Diet consists of boiled chicken or cooked ground turkey or sardines in soy oil. I add some nutro kibble & she also gets treats each day.
