Am I ok to give my girl her regular amount of Vit. C, E, and Salmon oil throughout her pregnancy?
Is there anything as far as extras go to stay away from during this time?
Mike, this link http://www.leerburg.com/breedqa.htm has tons of Q&A's on whelping, etc and has one on what to feed the pregnant girl. It says if you're feeding a natural raw diet, ie not from grocery store, it's ok to not give supplements. But if that's not the case, you could probably continue to give the ones you mentioned.
Cindy Rhodes or Connie may be able to help better on this.
Hi Mike,
I feed raw and have been for a long time now and I fed raw to my pregnant bitch. It was a nice healthy litter of 6 and they were all healthy ffromthe start and mom looked great for having pups and handled her job at her best.
I read a book called "Grow your pups with bones" I can tell you that book was awesome and helped me with any questions i had along the way and I went back to that book when I was stuck with any issues,I recommend this book , it's by far the best one out there..It also talks about when the pups are on the ground and what makes the best feeding (RAW) for your weaning pups..
Thanks everyone, I thought I had read somewhere not to use supps when dealing with a pregnant bitch, so I got a little nervous when I thought about how have been feeding her.
One of my vets said he would back off the supps for now and that the rmb alone should be sufficient, he thinks I am okay with giving vita.C though. I had her to his office today for an ultrasound so I would know how many we are having. Since her last litter was 9 and her largest was 14! and this is my first litter so I dont want any more surprises than i'm all ready going to have. The doc says she's pregnant unfortunately but he's unable to see any pups even though she is 35-40 days post breeding.
Anyhow, I feed a chicken back based diet from free ranging chickens and I have been giving her about 12-18 ounces of farm raised beef liver along with around 2TBL of glop.
