I hav read several books and cant seem to find a straight anwer on feeding raw pork...I bought some baby back pork ribs and was wondering if she will be ok eating them...she is really taking to this eating raw thing!
I have given Bayley raw pork a few times, she seems to enjoy it. I make sure I buy the kind that isn't seasoned and sometimes I can find neck bones. She has no trouble chewing those up. I do find sometimes it's a bit fatty and it affects her poops a little so I don't give much.
Pork is a major part of my dogs' diet and they love it.
They do very well on pork meat, much better than on chicken. I'd give them pork over chicken any day... it's also better chewing for them and lasts longer
Glad to hear that your girl is enjoying her meals!
Ditto to everyone. I actually find that neck bones are a great firmer, the opposite of Patty's experience. I use them as a puppy-occupier-keeps 'em busy for quite a while, and they rarely splinter. I also use pork feet, which they love. I've fed wild boar w/no problems either, but it had been killed and cleaned for human consumption, and deep frozen.
Vincent: Want some bacon?
Jules: No man, I don't eat pork.
Vincent: Are you Jewish?
Jules: Nah, I ain't Jewish, I just don't dig on swine, that's all.
Vincent: Why not?
Jules: Pigs are filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.
Vincent: Bacon tastes gooood. Pork chops taste gooood.
Jules: Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy ************. Pigs sleep and root in s***. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eat nothin' that ain't got enough sense enough to disregard its own faeces.
Vincent: How about a dog? Dogs eats its own feces.
Jules: I don't eat dog either.
Vincent: Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?
Jules: I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.
Vincent: Ah, so by that rationale, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true?
Jules: Well we'd have to be talkin' about one charmin' ***********' pig. I mean he'd have to be ten times more charmin' than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I'm sayin'?
we feed our 16 week old GSD a balanced raw diet. the meals are prepared based on recommendations from the breeder, van den heuvelK9, so I'm pretty sure we're OK on contents.
however, on one occassion recently, within 12 hours of the evening meal, our dog Dutch had no appetite for the morning fare. later that day the noises coming from his stomach were a symphony of loud gurgles and squeals. although he remained alert and responsive to the activites around the house, we were wondering what exactly the source of the noise may be. is it stomach acids working on bones? a blockage of some nature? ther was no evidence of discomfort, but he did have a single episode of vomiting. nothing in the contents.
his appetite returned a full day later. contrary to me, i'm hungry when my stomach growls.
any ideas?
ps the evening meal is raw chicken, non load bearing bones, and pretty much whole parts (backs, wings and thighs)
