Any advice on leash pulling. I've never had a 10month old pup that was so strong. I can pop that leash, till he's blue and still he dosen't seem to get it.
This is how a typical walk goes:
I call him, I get the leash, he sits in front of me, i attach the leash, i go out the door, i make him sit, i say lets go, he takes off HARD, I pop pop pop, each time saying heal, I shorten up the leash, he heals a minute or two, tell him good boy, then he's off again pulling real HARD. i pop as hard as i can my shoulder is killing me.
He wears a flat leather collar recommended in the video but is developing a sore on his neck from all the fierce popping. The collar fits well, but am I doing something wrong. Maybe a wider collar?
I also use treats but that doesn't work for long.
He does fine in the house and in the yard but as soon as we go for a walk it all goes out of his head.
Its pretty much a given that if you do a mundane, straight heel with no turns or any other challenge to the pup that he's going to pull. He is heeling for a few minutes then loses focus so give him something to focus on...You. Praise, treat or play for the good behavour/heel. Failing that, go to the prong. I like to try the least intrusive methods first before moving up to compulsion. If it takes a prong then use it, they are great tools.
