I don't know if I can do a poll on this board, or not, but if I can, i was wondering, for those of you who feed all natural kibble, which brand do you prefer and why? I have read so much stuff about what to feed/not feed my dog, and I would like to get opinions from people who actually feed an all-natural kibble diet. I am sure the raw diet is great, but I am still not quite ready to go to raw. I may be, as I research further. I live in a small town, and the pet stores I go to carry your run-of-the-mill foods, like Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba, which I don't want to feed. I finally settled on Nutro Natural Choice (which I believe is better), but it seems that a lot of people don't think it's that great either.
So, I just wanted to know, from the list that Ed has on his site, which foods do you all use?
Thanks a lot!

I feed raw and would choose that first. Second, I would choose a food with NO grain (Innova EVO or any other grain free alternative).

I feed Canidae. It was recommended by my breeder when I got my RR pup 5 mo. ago. At that time I was feeding my two Chi.'s crap in a bag, but put them on Canidae too. Mo older female (10 yrs.) had very dry ugly fur, and was looking very old at that time. Since the switch, her coat is Extremely soft and silky, and she seems younger. I like it.

I feed raw but in my opinion the next best thing would be the Honest Kitchen dehydrated food.

I used to feed raw, but for various reasons I cant right now.
I fed Nature's Variety Raw Instinct for a few months, not bad, but my dogs had intermittently loose stools for seemingly no reason. I then switched to "Orijen" and really like it. My picky eater of a dog that would turn his nose up to any kibble when he was a pup eats Orijen with great enthusiasm.
Out of all the natural kibbles out there I would choose Orijen in a heartbeat, even over Innova Evo.
If you dont mind a little extra work, I also had great results with The Honest Kitchen, Leerburg also sells it and their shipping is usually quicker than ordering from THK direct. But I would definately add some type of RMB's to the THK diet so your dogs aren't living off doggy-soup LOL.

I have fed Wellness, Canidae and Innova.
I found I fed less Wellness than the other two brands, but my current dogs didn't do well with it. (Diarrhea).
I stopped feeding Canidae because it was too hard to find a local store that kept it in stock (they would only have one bag on the shelf, and when I bought it, they didn't bother to re-order, so I kept running out).
I now feed Innova (not EVO) to both my puppies and my adults. I do have to feed more than I fed of Wellness, but everyone is doing well on it. No more soft stools (yay!)
So overall I would say I like Wellness the best, but I've had more than one dog not able to digest it and not sure why that is. I like it because it comes in different varieties - helpful when you have a dog with allergies - and also canned. And I find I don't have to feed as much.
I do not feed raw because I can't find a good source of meat other than the grocery store, and I was going broke! (And even the grocery store very rarely carries chicken necks/backs)

If you include The Honest Kitchen dehydrated food, that is the only commercial food in my house. I love it for travel, for no-food emergencies, and even as variety to the fresh raw my dogs eat. If I could not do fresh raw food, THK would be my choice; no question.

Oh, I just saw Mike's post, and that reminded me: Yes, Orijen has great ingredient lists. And I do indeed do raw add-ins* with the THK.
*People not ready for raw can even do cooked add-ins, as long as the package directions are not exceeded (so as not to throw off the phosphorous-calcium ratio).

Maybe Connie can correct me, but aside from some of the kibble having good ingredients isn't it necessary to feed raw in order to prevent periodontal disease? I've always fed raw and I have had no problems. I've been readin Tom Lonsdale and Dr. Pitcairn (sp?). The stuff they mention about kibble makes you go mhhh...
