Took my poochie camping this weekend. It was the best camping trip EVER! No arguements with the hubby, no whining from the kiddies and a dog that just loves his mama. For a dog that has just begun his PP training, you would think him to be a natural. Either that or just one huge mama's boy. The family is driving me nuts about the dogs devotion to me. I guess the one or two times that I left him at the campsite with the family he just went crazy!! Couldn't stand to not be by my side every second of every minute of every day. If I got up, he got up. If I sat down, he brought me the ball. My husband and my son were just disgusted. They both say he's taken over me, lol! My son calls him the intruder, haha! I'm hoping this is a good thing in him. I keep telling everyone that he is already halfway trained, after all, this is why we bought him in the first place. It's just really cool to see the love and the devotion of my Levi. What a great pup he's turning out to be. Now if I could just get him to quit pulling on the leash. GRRRR!

I have always used a choke collar in the past but with Levi I have never had to use it in a way that might damage his neck. He is very obedient and has never really been a puller. It's just been in the last couple of months that I have noticed him trying to pull me on the leash. I have been trying to address it but he wont really behave unless I have the choke up under his chin. I was also wondering about the fur saver collars. I've noticed that he's getting a big line around his neck with his collar.

Actually, I never talked to the old teacher about it and my new trainer and I dont start for two weeks. So I haven't had a chance to ask him. I was just searching the collars and wonder which collar I should use. Does the fur saver collar work like a choker? I do have a prong but I have never used it. Guess it might be time to try it huh?

Prong collars work wonders on a dog that pulls. Levi may let out a yelp the first time he tugs too hard but, smart boy that he is, he'll learn fast not to drag you down the street.

A prong collar is way better than a choke chain. I have personally owned a dog whose trachea was damaged by a choke chain. Back then that's what everybody used.
I will never put a choke chain on my dogs again.
Not only does the prong not cut off the air supply of the dog, it gets the message across faster. And it does NOT HURT them. Try it on your own thigh and see (your thigh muscles are similar to a dog's muscular neck).

I'm sorry, I didn't understand. Your right I quess the conversation is on collars. For my two cents worth---Take that chain choker and use it for tinsel on the christmas tree, use it for hanging plants, a key chain, play with it when your feeling stressed, use it to lock a bicycle up at the door, heck give it to someone you really dislike, but stop using it on your dog. Theres no need for him to absorb the abuse. Robbin, stop hedging and put the prong collar on. Think of it like this: how confused and fuzzy do you get when your air supply gets cut in half or off?
And be sure to ask the teacher about Levis' angst when you're not in sight.
If my dog isn't learning, I'm doing something wrong.
