My puppy comes from England. My vet said that until she is 16 weeks old and has had her rabies shot she shouldn't go out of my yard or come in contact with other dogs. She has had her parvo and kennel cough and other innoculations. I have been reading other posts in the forum and it seems others are taking their pups for walks at 8-10 weeks.
Is my dog the exception, or should I not worry about rabies. BTW, I live in the city of Santa Monica CA, not too mamy rabid dogs spotted lately. Thanks for your suggestions.

I would tend to agree with not coming into contact with other dogs that may possibly scare her and cause her to be "leary" of dogs for the rest of her life.
I think taking her for short walks (since she is young) would be fine.

I do not think exposing them to new areas while on a walk would be a bad idea.
If it was just a one time episode of diarrhea that cleared up quickly, it could have been that the pup may have been a bit nervous or excited and it caused him to have a loose stool.
Taking them for walks is perfectly acceptable as long as you remain the pack leader and protect them from loose dogs. Also, if the handler promotes confidence, the puppy will be more confident as well. It is just better to start off slow with a pup and build on the positive things.

stay in the yard up to 16 weeks? How do you plan to socialize this dog?
I don't agree with your vet. I don't think your dog needs to be nose to nose with strange dogs, but I *DO* definitely think your dog needs to leave your yard.
Take him for car rides, to visit friends, to the corner store, etc. Anywhere that he can be exposed to new places but be closely supervised and on leash.
