My 4 month old GS is not very interested in the orbee ball. Will he learn to like it? What can i do so that he begins to like it as much as food.
My main goal is to train by motivating him with the ball. I have tried tugs and he does not get motivated enough with those either.
Well, it depends on how much prey drive he has. In order to find out, you will need to put a LOT of movement into the ball. The easiest way to do this without killing yourself in the process is to but the ball on the end of a buggy whip, and move it all over the place If he tries to catch it then, he has drive and you just need to build on it. If he still does not take interest, then it is entirely possible that he has very littel prey drive. This is not uncommon in American Showline GSD's, some German Showline GSD's and even some working line dogs. What were the breeders goals for the litter?
Here is a photo of my whip. Starbuck took to it right away. The whip was about $7 at a Horse Tack store. Take of the "snap" end and find a way to tie on the orbee.
