I know nothing about tattooing dogs (sorry - not what you wanted to hear). But what about microchipping as a way to permanently ID your dog? All my pets have been microchipped, as we used to move around w/the Navy, and I was terrified of one of them getting lost in a strange place. I've never had any problems (knock on wood). For some reason, I was thinking that tattooing could be tampered with, or fade w/age, but I might be wrong. Just a suggestion - sorry I can't answer your original question.

We had purchased him as an adult and he had never been tattooed. I think it's best to do them around 7-8 weeks (for GSD or Mals) but I know of people who have done them later.
