Okay, Sheila Booth and the EVERYTHING book are great reads, but, how do I get my Mal to stop trying to eat my hand that the clicker is in?
She is definitely conditioned to the fact that the clicker means food, it is now human flesh she is going for......as soon as I click, she grabs me....
Should have posted in the other section since the clicker is the issue......sorry

I got a clicker just cause....cause I wanted one
You know, to teach tricks and such. Can't say I've used it much cause Lear wants to get the clicker. I have used it to extend the length of time he will do the crawl and it works great but maybe that's cause I got one hand right down in front of him with the treats, and the clicker up higher in my other hand.
I could sit and click that thing all day long - rather therapeutic. But of course I don't, darn.

Hahaha! What an awesome dog, first of all.
Try this. Have someone else (hubby? Is his name Doug? did I read that somewhere?) hold a high value, high SMELL treat.
You issue the command (clicker behind your back). Click for success, and have HIM treat. The sound of the click should mean food, not the sight of your hand cupped to hold the clicker.
Alternately, you can click the clicker with your foot (a lot easier if you have one of the iClick's sold on this site and elsewhere). Clicker is on the ground, issue a command (foot over clicker in preperation) when she complies, click and treat.

This is just me, but I wouldn't let anyone else give the treat to my dog. Maybe it works for this case... but I would try other stuff first.
But it makes sense. Clicker means food, not necessarily from Mommy...

Ha ha....yep....in my pocket, switched hands, me treat/Doug clicks, Doug treats/I click.
I have tried LB clickers and the I-clickers as well.
Have not tried the foot click yet though.
I think she just is fascinated by the sound of it. She will look for it and grab clothing where ever I am hiding it.
Should I correct her for it? I am just not sure how to progress since the clecker is supposed to be a good thing and I do not want her to associate it with corrections........

Sorry to keep posting... but how about spitting the treat instead of giving it from your hand?
Hopefully she doesn't get into the same habit, otherwise you could get seriously hurt. lol

Yeah, I don't think correcting her is an option. Not if you want her to associate click with food.

Carol, I wouldn't correct for it. Maybe it's just a matter of time before she stops going for the clicker. How long has she been doing it?
