I live next to an empty lot. for some reason people like to go thru this area to an acess on the golf course behind my house. this is actually trespassing because there is a fence and a sign up. anyway, I look out the window and see an old lady handing a treat to my older female rottie. this lady passes almost everyday but this is the first time I've seen her walk up to the wall and hand my dog a treat.... before I could get out of the house to confront her, she was long gone....I was PISSED. I took the treat from my girl and threw it over our wall....Im still waiting for the lady to pass so I can talk to her....
I dont know if these treats are gonna make my dog sick AND I dont want the kids around the area to see because they might think its ok to do the same...

Please be nice to her Collin and explain what your reasons are. She is an older lady, and on the optimist side of me, probably means well.
If it were kids, I myself would be irritated, but elderly people, mmmmmm, I have a soft spot for them I guess.
(plus if she meant well the first time and you yell, it could make her do something not so nice....hate to say that but it's true nowadays.)

I agree with this.

heh...our wall is only about 4 ft high...my dog can lift her front paws on to it but cant jump over it. Carol, I wasnt planning on yelling at her...ok so I might have came off a little hard but its a good thing I sat back down and cooled off. its just a steady problem with people passing thru. I once caught a young punk about to pet my dog. THATS when I was pissed and still am. as for the lady, I'll kindly explain to her...
im sure this lady meant no harm, but in the area i live in, it aint uncommon for an elderly person to do wrong just because...

Aside from the fact that you never know what someone is going to give your dog. I would flip if someone was feeding my dog over the wall. As a matter of fact I want to add this to my protection work. I don't want the dog to take food from strangers.

Colin,
Whenever you complain about something, I'm going to provide this stock response:
YOU LIVE IN HAWAII.
That'll be next time.
For now, be nice. What Carol said.

I am just one that will try and explain first (unless it is something that is REALLY stupid) and the next time I am not so forgiving.
It is difficult to have dogs in an area where people frequent as well and I guess I am fortunate to live in the middle of no where and have dogs that are a bit snarky when they are in their outdoor kennels and in the vehicle, this way no one really approaches them.
Once they are out with me they are just peachy with people which is okay with me.

right on Carol. thanks...
Steven, I live in Hawaii...yeah? and?
7 years ago our house was broken into. druggies stole almost all of my moms jewlery, dads little electronic gizmos, and some of my stuff. my dog at the time just made one and she was kennel kept so obviously the thieves would not be threatened by my dog being locked up. we have since then put up gates so our dogs can run freely thru the yard. Im not saying its the dogs job to protect our house, but most people in our area would think twice about entering a yard with 2 big rottweilers.
my point is, they didnt rob us wearing grass skirts or leave us a tropical drink before stealing our stuff. yeah Hawaii may be nicer than a lot of other places but remember, everywhere you go, there are bad areas. we just so happen live in a bad area. we druggies running up and down our street at all times of the day. Ive posted on onther forums about this and the mainlanders responses were "why dont you just move?". come on now. is that realistic? we dont move for the same reason most people dont move TO hawaii....its too damn expensive...
just a little insight as to WHY I was upset with this situation. dont worry, the old lday will not take the blame for all this...hehe.

I find that hard to believe!
I was referring more to the climate than the people, however.
But point taken.
I gotta add, however, that there's a certain poetic justice to having a young person get upset about an eldery person encroaching on his yard. Isn't it usually the other way around?
