Hi
I'm curious if anyone has used a coat for their dogs during the cold winter months?
I have a PitX who is very lean, with little body fat or coat to speak of. I'd like to get some sort of "jacket" to trap in body heat while we are out during the winter.
This dog is very high energy, so we are out exercising daily regardless of the weather! (No rest for the weary here
I've been considering an order possible from a company called Ruffwear.
Any suggestions/considerations?
Save your money! Go to Old Navy! I got my Mia one there-very cute, and CHEAP! Like maybe $12, and it seems quite warm. At least she appears more comfortable in it.

i have a ruffwear, its so nice, keeps the burrs off and warm, even tho i told my husband i wouldnt put a coat on the dog,he thinks its so stupid,i got it anyway
Well, my Collie/GSD cross has a nice thick coat. She seems fine, but my PitX has nothing to speak of to defend her against the elements if we are going for a walk/jog. I will definitely get some sort of outerwear for her!!
Sue, if you don't mind me asking, which coat did you purchase? There are 2 on the website.

i got the one that goes over the head, fleece inside and a nylon shell, not the stretchy one ,its got 1 or 2 straps to tighen underneath.cost about60 i think.comes in blue and red
You can all laugh at me for spending the money, but all the cheap coats I purchased for my insanely active and rough and tumble ridgeback either never fit well (and would end up sliding around, or off!), or were torn apart in a month - so I splurged on an awesome coat from a Swedish company called Obtrack.
They now offer TWO styles, the older one (the "Skrylle") is a water resistant, sweat wicking and slightly stretchy coat, the newer one is all thick fleece (the "Rogle") and costs a bit less (I have the first one, as it's the only one they made at the time, so I can't speak directly about the "Rogle" coat, but I can only assume it's just as good). These coats have a really innovative fit that allows for good, snug coverage, with enough stretch for very easy athletic movement. We run and hike all through the winter, so this coat withstands lots of active wear.
Ruffwear also makes great products! I thoroughly trust their durability and good design and have been happy with some booties and a pack that Oscar has from them.

i saw that obtrack coat its sooo nice but a little too pricey for me,i dont even think my dog needs a coat, but i got him 1 anyway, chicago can get brutal at times, labs are double coated, but mine lost alot of fur with his hypothyroid,so this winter he will wear a coat if its way below 0 or we go to burry woods and fields
