I have a problem. The person I gave bear to brought him back today. I got home from work and he was sitting on my front door. I called her she said she could not handle him. He has got a lot of bad habits I do admit but Jewel does not after training what I can do with a puppy. What should I do Try to find a new home or do a little training first or keep him. I just have a lot of pets a the sudden and I have just put out money for jewels and another dogs vet visit. And can not do anything for bear shot wise for a couple of weeks. Well it is parvo season here in texas right now so I am taking a risk of him getting sick. i am not even the breeder of these puppy's but it seems like I got all the problems I really need help. What should I do. She had told me everything was going ok tell today don't get it.
People often think having pups will be fun and finding homes will be easy.
Serious breeders spend considerable time effort and money planning litters and usually have most pups spoken for before the dogs are bred.
You are finding out what many already know. Finding really good puppy buyers can be a REAL challenge! Especially if you want the pup's to reach their full potential and live great lives.
Start looking for a good owner ASAP. Hopefully someone with dog training skills and familar with the breed. Leave no stone unturned and don't delay. Talk to vets, trainiers, other dog poeple hoping to find someone interested in the pup. Lots of people like the IDEA of a puppy, but don't really want a puppy.
You can work on basic manners and housebreaking with the returned pup in the interm.
One more question should I kennel them together while he is here. The DvD said no but I am making sure. I have had to teach him not to bite again and he is mean I think they hurt him. He is shy and was not like that before I plan on finding a new home. But may keep him tell 3 months there already two. To train him and will buy the new mommy or daddy a few dvd off this website. And keep in good touch with her or him. Please any advice give thanks so much.
Ok this is what is going on. My mom nose a cop that would love to take him. I am going to write up a contract for the pup to make sure no problem. What should be in the contract and what not. I know I did not have the mom to the pups. But now as far as I am concerned I have to make sure he gos to a better home I made a mistake make sure not to do that again. Talk to the cop he is a long time friend david. He will be a family pet and for under cover work to get pit rings off the streets. No fighting he is a cop. He has 3 kid 7,9,10 and a wife who already loves bear. He had another dog but died of old age so no pets wait 1 cat bear plays with my cat. So that should be no problem should I look at more people or should I see how the family interacts with him.
One useful thing to ensure a happy match for the puppy would be if you printed out a few of Ed's articles on pack structure and puppy training and gave them to the new owners along with the pup.
Puppies can be really annoying if people don't set any boundaries and let them loose unsupervized in their home. If they do things right, they should have no trouble raising a manageable pup
They might forget (or ignore) anything you try to tell them, but printed out instructions might have more of an impact.
I'm just wondering what kind of behavior problems this puppy could possibly have besides regular puppy issues? How old is this pup? Why did YOU give him up? Did I miss something here? Now you have a new pup? I'm confused....
Sounds like you have some good leads to follow up on. I think that Yuko's idea about printing out some info/articles from the site is a great way to arm your new owners with some groundwork info.
Also it may be a good indicator of what kind of owners they might be. If they look at the info and think it is crazy and say they would never follow that kind of advice, then maybe you may want to keep looking.
