What about when they kill a deer, and the deer has just eaten corn, and the dog goes straight for its stomach? Does it say to itself, "I shouldn't eat this stomach because it has corn in it and everybody knows that dogs don't eat corn."? Or is it okay in this situation? Sorry, don't mean to be a smart-ass, but my 15 year old son disagreed with me when I told him that dogs don't eat corn. He has a point.

travis pettit Webboard User Reg: 12-18-2004 Posts: 179 Loc: Offline	haha, funny topic. because i think that your logic in this situation is faulty, does will eat corn products for the most part, however their body doesnt digest them properly, and use the nutrients from the food for its body. hence when dogs eat "ol' roy" or purina or some of these other brands that utilize corn as a main ingredient, their volume of crap is greatly increased, and they will need to eat amazingly more amounts of food to satisfy their hunger... just because a dog eats something, or wants to eat something doesnt mean its ok or good for them to eat, like chocolate, grapes, toys, metal, etc...you shouldnt let your dog decide what it wants to eat all of the time! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

This, of course, put me back where I started. I decided to give my dog some mixed vegetables to see what would happen. I got dog poop with whole pieces of corn in it. This only answers part of the question, but it answered it enough for me.

I have been told it is used for the oil, as it keeps better than others. Of course I read that in a Kumpi dog food brochure so it could be crap. I am smarter than my dog, your just not.

I would be more concerned with the preservatives you don't read on the bag. Corn isn't dangerous is it????? I am smarter than my dog, your just not.

(Tomatoes do the same to dogs.) I read a study from the '50's of research about wolf packs. After a kill, the wolves tear open the stomach and shake out the contents before eating eat. I will try and find this article again to reference it. I lost the link when my last computer got flooded. I had to baby sit a cocker spaniel once that was fed Science Diet (Corn based food). He crapped more in one day than my GSD does in 12 days. True! If you insist on feeding your dogs corn, never, ever feed the corn cobs! Maggie

We feed our dogs food that has meats listed as the first ingredients... Its more convinient than hauling around fresh meat all of the time... i.e. road trips, camping... some brands have corn listed first. You will usually see with these type of high corn foods you have to feed them more than the ones that start out with meat as their first ingredient. We recently found a food that has meats listed first and it has no corn or wheat in it. It is reasonably priced food too, not like some of the other no corn or wheat brands. We will also give our dogs some raw chicken, mackeral, yogurt and yams, along with vitamins during the week to help make sure they are getting enough "good" stuff in their diets. I have to agree with the post refering to foods with alot of corn in them... my dogs dont crap no where near as much as our friends weimeraner that eats a food with alot of corn in it.
