Not sure where to put this, and I am posting because it actually shocked the S**T out of me. (did not scare me, just pissed me off really)
We were out with Jesea and Rock, playing with the chuck-it.
Something we do A LOT as it is great distraction training for all the dogs that are ready for a distraction like this.
Background on Rock-----totally OBSESSED with playing with anything (example-I put his toys up the other night, had him settle, and was watching Forensic Files....I notice he is up and standing next to me staring at something he wanted me to throw.....it was a DEAD FLY!!! YES, when I picked it up to go throw it away, he actually wanted to play fetch with it)
Tonight, I put him in a down stay, and Doug chucked the ball for Jesea, Rock broke, I corrected him since he was on lead, and he BIT me (blood drawn). Well, instant muzzle wrap with the lead and down to the ground we went. 15 minutes (5 of it seriously wrestling around) before he gave in and relaxed.....he has NEVER done that. EVER!!!!
When it was over, we got up, worked on some obedience and then he got to play one more time. And he is completely back to normal Rock.
Brought him to the house, checked him over, including vitals and noticed that one of his canines (which he has had root canals in all of them) looks different....so Monday we go to the vet as I am thinking he has a toothache or something.
That, and the fact that he is a bit spoiled since he has issues from a previous owner......so I am back to using his crate more and being the total pack leader with him.
It only goes to show, you need to know your dogs and what their normal behavior is. This dog is a workaholic that has never shown aggression towards me before.....something is up with him.
If it turns out not to be his teeth, then I will know that I have been too relaxed in his handling and it will be my fault, not his.
UGH....
(ready to be smacked with a newspaper now...... )

...and yet he looks so sweet and innocent in all his pictures ...
I'm just glad you're ok! Sounds like you have everything well under control as always. It's not like you could've seen this coming since it was so uncharacteristic of him.
I hope everything checks out with his health! Be careful now, I think you've had enough injuries for a while...

Wow Carol, that is very interesting. I hope you keep us updated on Rock's teeth, or any other insights you might have.
Was it a prong correction? Has he been corrected in that exact situation before? Could there be a trigger in his previous history (before you I mean) that could be unknown or overlooked?
Did he seem out of sorts at all the rest of the day in any way?
Sounds like you delt with it right away and both got right back on the horse so to speak.
Where did "the Rock" get you? Are you okay?
Man the fly thing had me LOL .

It was a flat collar correction as I have never really needed anything else with him. He has been corrected while doing this before (quite a while ago).
He was back to himself as soon as I let him up, shook it off and followed me through some obedience work.
He got me in the hand/wrist area....no punctures just some open scrapes, since his canines are there but short and semi-dull. I am fine, I have been nailed worse by Jesea , and another dog (not mine).
Right now, he is in his crate with the door open. I fed THK tonight as to give him soft food in case it is his teeth.
No tug, no catch for the weekend.

Glad you weren't seriously injured, Carol. How's Doug doing? That must have surprised the hell out of him, too.

yeah, sweet and innocent....that's it......
It's not like you could've seen this coming since it was so uncharacteristic of him.
It was a shocker, I watch for it out of Jesea, but never with him......
I hope everything checks out with his health! Be careful now, I think you've had enough injuries for a while...
We will get him all fixed up. I am good, and I agree, injuries are at maximum quota for me for awhile.

Doug thought it was funny, since he did not see the whole thing. He was playing with Jesea.
We were both laughing on the way to the house, he said it looked like I was gonna lose there for a bit......AHAHAHA.....he was like trying to wrastle a greased pig for the first few minutes.......

CAROL! This was THE moment to use your "femine wiles", turn on the crocodile tears, make him feel bad for laughing at your near-death experience and the wound you received and...
Hit him up again for little Ember

I'm glad you're okay, Carol. As one who has recently had a dog briefly go wonky on me, I can appreciate the "startle factor!"
Good on you for checking him out. Do you realize how many people would have NO idea if their dog's tooth looked different? I know plenty of people who have never even bothered to check their dog's teeth even once, let alone be able to detect changes. Hope all is well with him.
And oh, oh, oh....how funny that dead fly thing was. I actually snorted.
