I just got back from the vet and I refused to give my 3 month old puppy a rabies shot. The staff said here in the city and county that it was required to do so and if I got caught by the authorities I would have to do so immediately. I also mentioned that I do not want to deal with vaccinosis because she just got her 3rd set of puppy shots. I told them I would take my chances because she is usually with me either in the house or in the backyard being supervised.
Now I am wondering what is the youngest age your dog has to be vaccinated and how often where you live. Here it has to be done annually.

Carol I'm doing the same but I have a question for those of you titer testing. Do you titer test annually or every three years when you get the rabies?

I titer every two years and my vet is okay with that, I think I am the only one that titers in my area.
I did order some books on vaccinations or no vaccinations so my strategy may change if I learn something that will be better.

What are the results of the titer tests? Do they always show the dog has immunity? Do your unvaccinated dogs (if you have any) show immunity for any of the diseases that are titer tested?
In MO the three-year vaccine is required starting at 16 weeks.
Keeping your dog in the house or under your watchfull eyes does not prevent its chances for a rabies exposure as most exposures to rabies come from bats. You or your pet could be bit by a bat while you sleep and never wake up. A bat bite leaves a small mark that can go undetected very easily. Rabies control laws are not put in place to annoy you but to protect you , your pet, and the public from getting rabies and certain death. If you choose not to get a rabies vaccination for your dog , be thankful that other people in your community do. If your vet told you to get it at 3 months then that was determined by the Health Department. Most places require the shot by 3 or 4 months.
Stop making excuses for your dog and start training it!

OH PLEASE!!!! Scare tactics are totally not welcome here!! Bit in your sleep and never wake up???
If you want to vaccinate YOUR dogs go ahead, but in this case your opinions are seriously off base.
I weigh the risks of the path I have chosen for myself, my family and my dogs... I certainly don't expect a government agency to have MY dog's best interest at the top of their priority list.
