I am going to purchase an Ecollar soon, and have a few questions regarding the Dogtra 200 and the 1500. I am planning on getting the Ecoller DVD, as well...
I feel that I have most of my questions answered through searching the forum and reading the info about the two collars, but I still have a few questions...
Can someone explain the difference in selecting the level of stim on the 200 vs. the 1500?
Any other significant differences in performance or quality that you feel are important, please, let me know!
The selection of level of stimulation is the same for both collars. You adjust the level desired at the hand-held transmitter.
The 200 is smaller than the 1500 (about 1/2 the weight). The 200 has a smaller battery pack than the 1500, making it lighter.
I bought the 200 for my Beagle, who is not a soft dog (specially if hunting). The size is great, although people ask me "what is that?" often. I've only had to use max stimulation once.
If your dog is on the soft side, I would recommend you go ahead and buy the 200. You could buy the DVD with the money you save. In any case, you won't regret getting either. Awesome training tool.
The stim level on the 200 is low to medium power as apposed to lo-hi power on the 1500. I've used the 200 on hunting dogs and found them to be very effective, plus they're smaller as Richard said.
Could be one of two things. Can't speak about the 1500, but the 200 goes from 0-100. I'm pretty sure the 1700 goes beyond 100, but I don't know about the 1500. If it does, then there's your answer.
The other thing that comes to mind is that a stimulation of 50 in the 1500 might be stronger than the same level of stimulation in the 200.
In any case, you might want to call them and ask them yourself.
