I went outside in the rain and put on my rollerblades. I took Cody with me and get him to learn how to pull me. I'm so excited about a scooter because I suspect that I will get it for xmas.
I haven't decide on which scooter because there are two different kinds the one with front pulling (http://www.dogstarkennel.com/?id=20) and other is pulling by side (http://www.dietblog.com/archives/2007/04/05/dog_powered_scooter.php).
I should get the one that run by the side or front pulling. He is so used to walk by my side. In my rollerblades, I was so clumsy and fell a few time on my butt. I want him to pull me not walk by my side when he is on harness. I don't think he understands what I want him to do.
How do you get to teach a dog that harness means it is ok for him to pull me and collar means walk by my side? He doesn't pull that much, but he waits until I move first. Then thats what makes me fell.

You want a space on each end of a URL, not parentheses, so that it will be click-able.
I know zero about training pulling, but my first move would be to teach "pull" while I was safely indoors or in the garage (safe for the dog too), after letting the dog get 100% familiar with the scooter. ;-)
I would not start out with me on any kind of wheels on the street or sidewalk.
JMO, from the POV of someone who has never trained pulling.

Lindsay,
You are way braver than I am......
Not sure how to teach what you want, but you could try having him hooked up to the harness and having someone in front of you calling him with his most favorite treat or toy and see if that works.

I thought I should start with a baby step get him to learn what "Pull" means first. I can start with the backyard like we always do to work on pull? I hope there is someone in here who can give me a good advice how to start.

You could try it without the blades in the backyard and put a command to it.
When I first start the on-lead trailing dogs, this is how I do it.
We hook them up in harness and have someone give them a tidbit of food or shake their toy and then run a little ways and duck down behind something.
The pup or dog is allowed to "post" out to the end of the lead with the tension being encouraged with soft talk like "good boy, paus auf" or "watch em" and then once the person ducks down, you move forward with the dog allowing them to pull you to the person so they can get their reward.

I'm probably crazy for trying it without anyone's help. OOPS, I have thought about asking my sister to help out a bit and guide him while I'm holding his harness. She's at work right now. I just can't wait for her to get home tonight! I'm sure Cody will figure out somehow because he will know that there's no correction when he pulls.

I really like your advice. I'm sure my sister is going to help me out on this one.
Thanks Sarah, I will pm David. I hope he has some good tips.
You guys have no idea how excited I'm to have a dog scooter! I love when I see a dog gets so worn out after getting a good workout.
