Hi, I have 11 month old German Shepherd male that has anal glands. I found a lot recommendations to increase fiber in his diet so he stool would be more solid.
Any recommendations on which food would be good for that?
Currently I feed him Innova Adult Dog food.
He also has Degenerative Joint Disease in his front elbows, if I increase extra fiber in his diet, would it have any negative affect on that?

I found this:
WHAT HAPPENS IF AN IMPACTED SAC DOES NOT GET EMPTIED?
An abscess can form and rupture out through the skin. This is a painful, messy and pretty smelly condition often mistaken for rectal bleeding. If an anal sac abscess forms, it must be properly treated by your veterinarian. Antibiotics will be needed.
Whole Dog Journal said that a dried apricot or prune (no pits with either) once a day helped dogs keep the anal glads expressed.
They also said that a hot tea compress would help clear the glands. Brew tea, cool it to a comfortable temp, use a cloth soaked in the tea and hold it over the anal area. I don't remember how long the article said to hold the compress on, I'm going to guess 5-15 min. I would also say you would need to periodically squeeze out the cloth as it cooled and refresh it with more warm tea.
Worms can also cause blood in the stool. Does he act like he is in pain?
I don't know about treats/supp w/Vit E, but usually my dog will eat the Vit E capsule if I just put it in his food mixed w/the salmon oil. Occassionally he leaves it in his bowl, and when he does, I just stick it in the back of his mouth and he swallows it w/no problem.

Yes. My dogs act like the E-capsules are wonderful caviar.
