The law see's "Protection k9's" as weapons. What are the laws exactly? when is it ok to use your partner for protection? If someone breaks into your home while your not there, what happens if your k9 bites them? Or say you are taking a walk in the park and somebody runs buy and steals your purse can you let your dog go?
Does anyone know the laws on when it is and isn't ok to send your dog?

Hi, Victoria,
This has been addressed in SO many threads on this board that I would be remiss not to suggest that you also use "search" and look at a few of them. There's just no way you will get the number of answers on this thread to equal the hundreds of posts made in the past on the subject.

Laws and standards vary from state to state if I am not mistaken.
Best things to try would be:
Ask LE or a States Attorney on what the laws are (I would actually try this last, since you may run up against the "What do you want to know that for?" attitude.
Search the internet for your specific states codified laws on K9's
Search LB as well, as mentioned before, this topic has hundreds of posts about it. (start in the Dog Law section)
Until The Tale of the Lioness is told, the Story will Always Glorfy the Hunter
Here in Texas it has to do with cityand county laws/ordinances rather than state law. of course, we're kinda like the ole'west; enter my house and your fair game.
I have had some dealings with dog bites on the street and the basis for legality, at least in my city, is provocation. Everything is based on whether or not the attack was provoked or not.
