So you'll probably never see my dog with a DD collar on any I don't foresee any alpha rolls in my near future but I just visited to local butcher and picked up 2lb's of chicken backs...
Now I don't plan on make a total switch anytime soon (I'm on a student's budget) but I'd like to supplement my pup's kibble (Canidae) with raw. What's the best way of doing this? Whats the kibble-raw ratio...What I mean is if I'm feeding two cups of kibbble and I want to cut back to 1 cup, how much raw should I give? Thanks in advance.

I would make them different meals, and I'd get him some salmon oil and Vitamin E.
And I would congratulate myself on an excellent decision.

I'm new to this raw thing, but if your pups normal, total daily intake is 2 cups of food, you would cut out 1 cup and introduce a raw meal that was 1% of the dogs body weight.
So, a 20 pound dog would receive .2 pounds (3.2 ounces) of raw meat. If you want to strictly follow the BARF concept, about 60% of that would be RMB (chicken backs), 20% would be muscle meat, 10% would be organ meat (liver) and 10% would be veggie, preferably blended with a good (with live cultures) PLAIN yogurt. Throw in a raw egg every other day or every three days.
And as Connie said, feed raw as its own meal. If there is a meal that your dog is less eager to eat, replace that meal with raw food (if it isn't interested in eating at dinner time, for instance).

Yea! Glad to hear it Benjamin
For my young puppies (6-12 weeks) I use the eyeball method. If it looks like it will fit in their belly I give it to them. If they act like they are absolutely starving after they have eaten I give them some more. If they don't finish their meat in a few minutes and go take a nap I cut back by that much the next time. I don't have any underweight pups, and if the older pups start to look too fat I cut them back a bit.

Backs are a great RMB. I too would add a little muscle meat to most backs (unless they are particularly meaty), and a little organ meat (5 to 10% of the raw food).
I like plain live-culture yogurt too, as a probiotic. And it "comes with" its own calcium, just as the backs do. :>

Then sit back and watch his teeth and coat start to shine, all bad breath and doggie smell go away, and all skin issues clear up. You may see his coat change color a bit, and shedding reduce. He may also have more energy (but don't let that stop you).

Ben, I believe you posted you have a GSD/boxer mix. So if one meal will be 1 cup of kibble, the other meal (and kibble should be fed in a separate meal from raw) could be 2 chicken backs if they're rather small, or 1 chicken back and 3 or 4 chicken necks, or 2 turkey necks. Something in that proportion. It doesn't need to be exact, like Debbie said if he puts on weight, cut back a bit, if starting to thin out, up the amount of raw.
I don't always feed the same amount every day simply cause it's hard to get say chicken quarters or turkey necks that are the same size. So the amount fed everyday varies by a few ounces and it's not a big deal.
My trainer started feeding raw to her dogs. She talked about her Malinois who is 5 years old but had begun to show a lot of white on his muzzle. The white hair is being replaced with black hair and his coat is now shining and beautiful. I saw him and could see the difference. She's one thrilled lady.

This all helps guys. Thanks a lot. My dog is about 55lbs and I'd like him to be 60. He's active and I love it. We train twice a day at least, Play a lot of ball and tug and he gets to run in a big field with his bud from downstairs(only other dog he's allowed to play with for a multitude of reasons). I'm welcome to more energy. I cringe when people complain about their dog being "hyper". They don't understand how much easier it is to train a dog that is driven by food and play.
back to the topic. I feel like I'll probably go between kibble one day and RMBs, organs, ect the next.
