My 5 month old platz well when in front of me. His problem seems to be that when walking or in a foose and told to platz, he does, but begins to back up as he platz. Sometimes his platz are very fast. Other times he begins to platz then hesitates and moves back a bit to platz.
How do i fix this problem before it gets to be a habit?
I originaly began to show him the platz from a standing position as instructed in my shutzhund obediance book. He does very well when i platz him from in front. When in motion is when his problem begins. This is new for him and i want to instil the correct way before i go on.
probably a stupid question, but did you first teach him a stationary down while standing at your side? i ask, because you only mentioned teaching him to go down while standing in front of you, and dogs usually have trouble processing a command when given in a new context... ie - have you ever tried to recall your dog while sitting cross legged on the floor with your back to him? it's the rare dog that will translate what he knows as a recall (to come in a straight line and sit at your feet dead center while you stand facing him) into the new version on his first try.
