Today at training I decided I wanted Levi to get a title. Since I don't intend to do Schutzhund because of the fact that I am training strictly for protection, I thought that a BH would be something attainable whilst not interfering too much with the PP work. How do you guys feel about this AND are there any other things that he can be trained/titled to do that won't interfere w/his protection training? I really don't want to put his concentration too much on other things at least not until the protection is pretty solid. However, since he comes from a long line of titled males I didn't want to let down the lineage by not doing anything with him. Also, is there a title for PPD other than Ring/Police training?? Any advice would be helpful.
The BH should be no conflict Robbin since it's kind of a temperment test with some pretty basic obedience. Nothing that would effect what you are doing.
A BH is a great thing to have , regardless of your bite work.If your dog is sound and stable it should not matter. My ppd had his BH when I bought him. I think it's a good thing and Good OB makes a good PPD dog and a responsible handler. ..
"Also, is there a title for PPD other than Ring/Police training??"
Huh? How in the world is Ring a "PPD title"?
Will, excuse my stupidity, I didn't mean a PPD title for ring, I meant to write K9/police training, lol!!!
However, to be fair, I am not very informed when it comes to titles in this area. Quite frankly, I have never heard of a title for protection. Only titles attached to police k9's.
The whole idea for me is to work towards giving Levi a name in something. No point really in titling in Schutzhund, I can not breed him, he is monochrid, otherwise I definitely would. I suppose we could work on that later on once the pp training has been accomplished but for now I don't want to mix the two. I feel a tremendous amount of guilt when I look around and see how much his ancestors have accomplished, several in the litter he is from are doing great things also. To do nothing for him makes me feel bad Is this irrational? I don't know, maybe.
So what else can he do to make a name for himself besides a BH?
No point really in titling in Schutzhund, I can not breed him,
I don't get the connection. Sorry -- long week, long day......
Well, maybe the information that I was given wasn't correct. Maybe that is how I should have started off with this post by verifying what I had been told previously. However, I was told that if Levi wasn't going to be doing any breeding that there really weren't any reasons to do titling on the dog. To be sure the monochrid trait is not genetic in his line (thus far) and might just be an accident of nature but I don't know if I want to take the chance on that one. Especially since he was going to be doing PPD training.
On top of this, I have also been told that it is confusing to the dog to do both Sch and PPD training. Maybe this is wrong information??
