Our pup is 6 months old, and I want to make her a bungie type tug (orbee ball) that hangs from a tree limb. Can I make it so that she has to jump for it, or is she too young for that? Better to leave it low enough for her to grab and tug w/out jumping?
I can't imagine any benefits to encourage a dog to jump up. My puppy is 4 months old and loves to play tug. She jumps up and goes after my hand just to get the toy. I don't like the idea of her jumping up because I believe it will lead to other bad habits that will be hard to correct later.

Plenty of benifits if you are going to train in a sport. Schutzhund prospects are encouraged to jump up and take a tug as puppies.

I agree with Carol. Why risk the Joints of the Pup at this Age, I have been waiting for 12 months to find out if my Older Pups Joints are Okay, and every time he goes on the training field to work on protection i wonder if his legs and hips are okay, until i get back the results i will not stop thinking about it
I would not dream of doing with 6 month old Goran what you are doing with your Pup.
Goran will be trained in Schutzund the same as Older Pup Fred, He loves his Obly Ball but i do not make him Jump for it, They are only a Pup for a short while, but a Grown Dog a lot longer, Try and keep it sound while you can, not by wrapping him up in cotton wool but just a bit of patience, for a couple of months or so
Springpole info: (I am getting the distinct impression by the responses that people don't understand the question or are picturing jumping as in jumping OVER something, hence the joint concerns) http://www.workingpitbull.com/springpole.htm
I would wait until she's a little older, but this isn't the kind of jumping people are picturing...but hey, this isn't really a bulldog site, either.
