I am certain my 7 month old pup needs his anal glands squeezed out. I think it is too late to suspect worms in North Idaho. It's been below freezing pretty much every day for a month now. He was just wormed before winter. I had one other dog that had anal gland problems once or twice. He just happened to have vet visits during that time so the vet squeezed them. This dog is acting the same way they act if they have worms or anal gland issues. Can someone explain the exact location and how to squeeze them out. If I remember right they don't smell very nice.
Is not that hard to do but is very smelly. I was going to ask what you feed as when feeding raw the hard stool usualy does this for you and most dogs on raw have little problems

Hi Mitch and Connie - I'm feeding Orijen, vitamin E and salmon oil. He isn't hitching but trying to bite at it a lot. Maybe the cheddar cheese I give him in the Everlocking Ball is a partial culprit. He was doing it before I got the ball as I recall.

We don't have fleas in this area believe it or not. There is no biting insects of any kind this time of year. Once we freeze up nothing like that can survive until spring breakup. His poops are normal since he arrived at 10 weeks old. He shows no symptoms of any other problems that I can think of. I'll have to bite the bullet and set a vet appointment. I have the same great vet for 27 years now. But, I swear taking my kids to the doctor is less expensive than taking my dog to the vet.

I betcha that this is a tech kind of thing. I would say IN ADVANCE that you will want to observe, so you don't run into "you can't come back here" issues and they know to put you into an exam room.

I understand. He has never played that kind of game with me. He knows I've been "around the block" too many times with dogs. He lets me watch as I get plucked. I'm not being very fair. He is a very good vet and very pricey. He and I have been through a couple of pretty tough operations with German Shepherds, years ago. They involved consultations with that vet institution in Calif. I can't remember the name of the institution but I think it was located in Davis, Calif.
