Another tragedy occured yesterday when a 1 yr old boy was killed by a Rottie.
The Rott was a family pet. There were 7yr old, 6 yr old and 1yr old children in the grandparents' house, being looked after by a 16 yr old aunt - who was upstairs.
The 7 yr old carried the 1yr old boy out to the garden to pet the dog, and it apparently grabbed the baby from her arms.
As you can imagine, the media are all over this story, and the 'ban specific breeds' shout it going up again.
The Rott was a 2 1/2yr old female, and was shot by police at scene. It had never previously been aggressive.
Do you ever feel like maybe we just shouldn't post these at all? Like maybe it brings even more negative attention? Rob, I'm not putting you down for posting it at all...just wondering if we really should.
It's not for negative attention, the media do enough of that already. This kind of thing doesn't happen that often in the UK, but it is increasing.
You guys in the US are already fighting breed specific legislation - and it's now being mentioned over here.
Where else are we to get information and ideas about how to fight it?
I feel sorry for the Rottie, as well as the little kid. It's bad irresponsible ownership that caused this tragedy, but our Government has a history of knee-jerk reactions - so all the advice we can get is worth it.
And a few extra prayers for the kid, and Rottie, won't hurt.
Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.
I agree. Seems like it's been mentioned before, but . . .
Add to that the fact that the early media accounts are rarely accurate and that board members here can usually figure out the scenario. Maybe it could be a new board rule for '08? Or at least lock the threads.

If anyone with a link to a news story has any doubt at all, please PM Ed or Cindy or any mod first. This has been said before on the board, but I'm completely aware that not everyone could or should be expected to have seen it.
This is a dog training web forum. We could fill it with dog attacks. I know because I subscribe to Google Alerts. If people want to read these kinds of things I suggest they do this. I post certain news articles on Rots and Pit Bulls in the articles on my site. I would appreciate them not being posted here. Frankly they depress me. A very very large portion of my web site is dedicated to helping people understand and eliminate dog aggression - I am doing my part in this. These article are not going to add to this.
Don't take this personally - it's just the way I want to run this forum. You may disagree and thats fine. Just please dont do it here.
