so I have this male do pit my house, who is about a year old, and not fixed yet, though he will be soon.
But, he is marking in my house. I crate him when i don't want him out, ans when he is out he is on a long line, attached to me. But he is still marking, right there beside me! I correct him, and nothing! He stops, but he'll just do it again a minute later.
I am not correcting too hard, and i'll admit, this is a new dog, and i am not comfortable correcting too hard, i don't know what he'll do. When some friends come back from break, i will test him and see what he'll take, but i don't want to do it alone, as i don't have a muzzle.
Anyway, what can I do? He is wearing a prong, and a long line. I know pits have thicker necks, so do i automatically have to correct harder?
By the way, this is his only vice, he isn't aggressive(that i have seen so far), bart, my dog aggressive dog growls and what not from inside his crate, and this dog does nothing, so that is good. He just keeps pissing on things, and i can't stand it. He goes outside, and i limit what he pees on, but in the house, he doesn't care.

How long have you had this dog? It has been my experience that a dog that doesn’t understand that he is to go outside “only” will pee right in front of me. Once the dog is starting to get the idea, he’ll quit going in front of me but may snick into another room to do his thing. Then of course once he is completely housetrained he will only go outside.

Yeah, if it was me, I would go with the assumption that the dog has not been housetrained and start from scratch before jumping to corrections.

he was chained outside until i got him, so he has never been house trained. I just know that he is going outside, but marking in the house too.
i knew he wasn't housetrained, and i know it takes time, i was just concerned about him permanately marking in my house, even though he goes outside.

I can see where that would be frustrating and my housebreaking experience has been starting with puppies so hopefully someone else will jump in here.
My thoughts are that you take the dog from the kennel directly outside without giving him the chance to stop and smell anything. Give him a chance to pee several times since when marking they don’t usually empty their bladder on one thing. Once you bring him back in, keep him on a very short leash and don’t let him near anything he could mark, for example – furniture or corner walls etc. Watch him closely for any signs like a certain area he is taking an interest in and get his attention back on you. I think you need to start slow with just a few minutes out of his crate and build on that. JMO
Ed has some great articles on housetraining, have you read them?
Good Luck,

have read them.
And i do take him straight out from his crate. I think i will just keep him in his crate longer. Maybe if i keep him in their longer, he wil have to go so badly, he'll empty out all at once.

The Groundwork e-book is really spot-on for this kind of situation.

Mallory: Maybe he is also marking because of the presence of the other dog, is it a male too? Since your dog is growiling in the crate, perhaps the new dog is marking more often just to show, this is his place now. I would be extremely careful to not let them out together. Pits are known for not barking or growling and just attacking. And besides, he still has to see you are the dominant one in the house. When he goes in the house tell him no and take him directly out. Even after he is fixed he may lift his leg, especailly if he can smell the other dog and also smell where he just went. So, make sure you really clean the area where he goes well. Reward him when he goes outside.
Just some thoughts.
God bless you

oh, don't worry, they aren't out together. Bart is a jerk, and would either rip Capone(new dog) apart, or(more likely) die trying.
Will this marking calm down after he is fixed? He is older, just over a year, and i know that the older the dog is, the less behaviors are affected by the operation. He has been bred, several times i am afraid, so though not a dominant dog per say, he could easily go on marking for a while.
Also, i think i will be moving in a few weeks, so will the new place keep him marking??
