Is there a place where I can find a list of what types of organ are considered muscle? I order my food through a group which has a very large selection of lots of good stuff. I struggle every month trying to figure out what to buy to feed as organ because I know sometimes it's considered muscle in the raw diet.

I would consider liver, lungs, kidney, spleen, heart, tripe, pancreas, brains, eyes, tongue, etc. as organs. If it moves or makes something move I would call it a muscle.

Hearts, tongue, and stomachs could be called muscle.

If you can get a little of everything I would get it and feed a little of everything.

In my own "rotation" I feed liver, lungs, kidney, spleen, and pancreas as organs. He gets brains, eyeballs, tongue, and all the other good stuff when I feed heads or whole prey.

I like to use hearts as a good, cheap source of muscle meat. Just another something to add for variety. Technically organ, but what are ya' gonna' do.

I also do the same with tripe. It is pretty nutritious all its own.

I understand what your are asking though. I don't know of a list. You know all the ratios, so I would just get some of everything. One day feed liver as your organ, next day feed spleen, next day.... As long as you aren't feeding one organ all the time, day in and day out, you should be fine.

LOL! I had another post where I was asking about cutting up a 6-way cut goat and someone asked where I got that because he had wanted one but didn't know where to get it. I almost posted my group's website but then changed my mind because I thought it was cruel. I do know that I'm very lucky.

Thanks for the info. I just can't remember the different places I've read about what is considered to be muscle. I've been looking around the internet and need to go back and reference the couple of books that I have. For this month I ordered Beef Liver, last month is was Duck Liver (there I go bragging again - sorry!)

I'm going to buy some Beef Heart from the grocery store and see if they like it (for muscle). I think I tried it before and they didn't like it so much.

Mike you are totally right, great advise, but why split anything you can mix organs, muscle etc... their is no need to split by day anything, they can eat EVERYPART part AT ONCE, you can split if you choose but for your own reasons. I feed my dogs everything at anytime,somedays they get all kinds of organs and other time it's all tripe, it all depends what I have.. I feel like a scavenger at the grocery store..I like the whole prey model and lately I have been feeding lots of rabbit meat..

I'm anal and weigh everything. I feed my RMB's in the a.m. and muscle/organ/veggies in the pm. I want to be like you when I grow up and do the whole prey model thing. I'm afraid I'd screw it all up if I tried.

Right, there is no need to split anything. Its all mixed together in a whole animal anyway.

I wasn't saying to separate muscle from organs. I was just trying to give the O.P. another way to look at it.

I know that some like to debate whether heart or tripe is an organ or not. I was trying to convey that it didn't matter.

Everyone knows what a muscle is. Everyone knows what organs are. Those organs that some would consider a muscle can be fed either way. If you feel like giving a daily alotment of heart or tripe then go ahead. If you want to feed either once a week for a whole days worth of food then that sounds good too.

Some weeks I forget to feed organs and some weeks I feed them everyday. I just didn't want the O.P. to struggle over that question. Everybody does it different. Those organs that can be considered muscle are not going to make or break a raw diet. Alotta meat, some bones, and some organs......

How long have you been raw feeding? I've only been doing it a year. My dog is still alive though. .....Hey, thats better than AAFCO standards, right?

I know diddley about feeding a raw diet, except that it is easy to overthink. You're way of doing it sounds great to me. I'm on the other end of the spectrum which is fine too.
