Michele , that is a nice combo, no showline in this, what is your concern about it ? the ratings don't mean it's showline..
I like the dogs, I would buy a pup..

Under the SV breeding system, all German Shepherd dogs must have a show rating, a working title and be koer-klassed (evaluated by koer-meister) before the litters can be registered.
So, having a show rating doesn't mean they are show-line dogs.
FWIW, if it's a sable-colored dog, you can be pretty certain it's not show-lines.

Everyone's right. Keep in mind though, if looking at OTHER Grafental dogs that they do breed showlines as well, or at least they have, so look at the dog and the ped, and not just the name. While DDR is what Grafental is known for, there are some showlines bearing the Grafental name, so look deeper than just the name.
I like these dogs, always have. My newest addition is out of V Peddy vom Grafental.

Thanks everyone for the input.
Any idea if the pups will be good as sports dogs(mainly SchH) for a novice? (I hear ddr aren't the best sports dogs, but that it also depends on the particular dogs in the lines)
I really want to try schutzhund out, and hopefully put a title on a dog... it looks hard and really fun. But having a good, protective companion is just as important to me.

Any shepherds,East, West, with good drives can be sports dog ,it all depends where and how far into the sport you want to get to. Club trials are fun and easy, you'll learn a lot if anything you will slow your dog down ,as you say you are a novice, that litter you are looking at is fine for what you want. Look forward to the dedication you'll have to make to the training of Schutzhund! Have fun!

how do you 'disguse' a show dog as a DDR? one look at the head would be a dead giveaway, if the banana back, etc didn't. btw, angelique, *love* your daggitt! awesome colour! ^o^

Gail,
To someone new to gsd, I guess its pretty easy to DISGUISE a show dog. But thanks for trying to make me feel stupid. I saw the 'V' ratings on showline dogs and saw the same 'V' ratings on these dogs, and got confused. I didn't know the ratings had different meanings.
Heads and "banana backs" don't mean anything if there are different show standards. Two different organizations can have different standards for a gsd, and therefore produce two distinct looking dogs...but both dogs are still show dogs even if they look different. And since they were both bred for looks, they both can't work as well as working bred dogs.
