none of my dogs will eat raw fish. I have tried several kinds and its all the same. They will eat canned but I really think that whole fish would add things that they cant get from canned fish. has anyone else had this problem?

Have you tried mackerel?
I buy bags of frozen mackerel and thaw them out a few at a time. the only dog that will not eat them is the Dutch, he won't eat fish....period.

I just thaw them in cold water and then throw them in on top of their other food.
I gave Little Em a small one tonight and she laid on the floor of her crate with it between her paws and just licked it for a long time, then finally she figured it out and ate it.

ohh, ohh!! I've been wondering about this subject!! My hubby and son caught a bunch of fish when we went to Rocky Point, Mexico. I have been wondering if that fish would be safe to feed to the dogs. (apparently we aren't in a hurry to eat it, soooo fishy!) Sea fish, barracuda, yellowtail, etc. Should I try and feed it to my dogs or should I throw it out for worry of the "water" lol!

I found with my lab who thought fish were from another planet when I offered her one benefited greatly from a slightly frozen smelt (like 15 minutes in the freezer) that she could manipulate a little more.
if it's a cold water salt water fish or a fish found in rivers/lakes and is good enough to be table food for humans, it's ok for my dog...obviously, you just need to be aware of mercury poisoning and do some research about where you get your fish.
