There is a room in our house, the one where the back door is as well as the doggie door that has been frankly just abused.
The previous owners had a dog and it must have had accidents in there.
Nico has had a couple of true accidents from upset stomach in that room right by the back door before we had a doggie door...that is like elephant poop!
Then I had the three rescues from hell, they peed and pooped in there as well and it wasnt always easy to get to right away, or get totally off of them because they were so fearful of me for so long, that is where their kennel was, and they would happily crap right next to their food bowel and keep on eating.
Levi our previous husky would go in there and pee or crap if given half a chance, even with the dog door and him knowing fully how to use it. But especially in the first two weeks after we no longer kept the dog door open due to his need to escape.
Puppy had been doing really well using the dog door and had no accidents in nearl two weeks so I had slacked off some in my vigilance. He only had access to the living room the hallway and the back room with the dog door.
I walked back there tonight and found two piles of doody, and some wet stinky laundry he or the cat had dragged out of the basket and then peed on. There was also a sock across the room that smelled like male cat pee...it is a distinct odor from dog pee.
All the pee clothes are soaking in some oxyclean in the washing machine to try and get the odor out of them.
I also wonder if he has been peeing other places in the room and I hadnt noticed it. We dont use the room at all other than for some storage of stuff that cant handle extreme temperature changes and the laundry baskets. At least i know why our house smelled a little like a Kennel, It was driving me nuts!
Everytime there has been an accident i have cleaned with either Nature's miracle or the stuff called Kids and Pets from Target (good Stuff). At one point I took everything out of the room and soaked the entire thing witha gallon of natures miracle and then put plastic over that to give it longer to work before it dried. IT got rid of all smell to my nose when doing the nose to the floor sniff test...but obviously not to theirs.
We never have a problem with them going back to accident spots anywhere else, only right by the back door.
Would resealing the floors in there after a very deep clean work to mask the scent they can still smell?
Is there something stronger than natures miracle that wont totally eat the wood, but i dont mind if it alters its appearance?
These are old floors, probably 80 to 100 years old and not in the best shape. The rest of the floors in house are old and charming but in much better shape and get babied a lot more.
There is no polyurethane on any of the floors, only an old fashioned shellac and then we wax them by hand twice a year.
But we have never waxed the floor in the back room.
I dont want to replace the floors in there until we have no more puppies to ruin it again. And we also have to save up for the cost of labor and supplies to have it done.
So no more freedom for pup at all, and Loki isnt allowed in there until i get it figured out. I dont want him marking over the pups pee.
