Senate bill 2738 has been introduced and will become law July 1,2008. Ownership of a Pit Bull, defined as Pit Bull Terrier Am Staff American Bulldog or Stafordshire Terrier or any mix of more than 50% will be a class A misdemeanor and the dog must be turned over to a local humane society. I think it is article B sec A that says it will be unlawful to own these dogs in the STATE of Tennessee.If you are in Tennessee or know anyone that is please call your senator and protest. What breed is next if they pass this.

Matthew, Pit type dogs are not the problem. They have not done anything to merit them being banned. It's all due to the idiot owners who abuse them. I can't stress that enough.

Alex, you misunderstand me. I agree 100% with you. No breed of dog should be banned in my opinion w/the exception of wolf hybrids as pets. But to those who are ignorant I understand how it is perceived through their eyes.

The fact that they classify an American Bulldog as a pitbull is enough to make me scratch my head, what happens to all those bullmastiff mixes and boxer mixes etc that have an underbite and might be classified as an AB? or the labs and pointers and hounds and mixes thereof with zero APBT, Amstaff, AB, or other "game" dog in them?
It is ridiculous. All breed bans do is take good dogs from good people, it does not stop bad people from owning these dogs. It does not prevent dog fighting it does not prevent mistreatment of animals, it does not prevent dog bites. It makes the dogs more appealing or makes the people interested in bloodsport turn to other breeds not yet banned. People just don't get that.
