The air in our house horribly dry right now, its awful.
Fargo runs behind me when i walk touching my calf with his nose, but everytime he does it now we both get shocked.
I went to pet pup this morning and there was an arc of electricity from my hand to his ear
Last night i walked in the living room and the lights were off and when the two big dogs rolled over to see me they made some serious sparks on their cotton beds.
I rubbed the sofa and the chair down with fabric softener beds, and I spritzed their beds with some very diluted fabric softener in water.
But I still can't touch them, or them touch anything else without getting shocked. Fargo's hair is literally standing on end.
Is there something I can rub into their fur or spray on them or someway to de-statick them.
Ive got some water steaming on the stove, and yesterday I filled up the crockpot with water and turned it on in the living room to steam and evaporate, its still going.
I dont have a humidifier and dont really want to buy one until the end of the week

I just did a Google search to be sure...fabric softener pops up as being toxic to animals so you probably don't want to wipe them down with dryer sheets or spray it on any surfaces.
I wish I had a solution for the static but a humidifier is the best way I know to stop it.
I usea couple different products for de static, refresh, moisturizing between baths etc. One is from Tomlyn, called Nova Pearls. It has a nice clean fresh scent and is specifically geared towards moisturizing skin and coat.

I find that when I'm grooming I just wet the brush and it cuts the static, doesn't last long but doesn't put anything on the coat that might not be too good for the animal. I do that more for my cats than the dog. Cats really don't enjoy the little zaps they get from the brush.
I also don't like putting anything I think would be harmful on the coat of any animal, I select products without alcohol and other such ingredients. Silk proteins and aloe etc. Cowboy Magic is wonderful stuff for cats dogs and horses
