I am a new raw feeder (10 days), I have seen drastic improvements in this little time period.
I found a poulty distributor in my area who sells cases of chx neck/back. When I called to order, he started to question me about my feeding, what vitamins, supplements etc. He suggested that I just buy "their" brand of dog food. They are a poulty distributor who also has a RAW brand food they make there on the spot. He said he started with his dog and ended up bringing someone in who has created this balanced diet. He began making in quanity and selling in due to the demand.
Basically he told that there is no way to ensure that I am giving my dog a balanced diet expecially calcium. I checked out the website and this is what their food consists of :
CHICKEN & VEGETABLE
INGREDIENTS: Chicken, Chicken Liver, Chicken Hearts, Chicken Gizzards, sweet potato, broccoli, flax (linseed) meal, rice bran, tomato pumice (dry), sunflower meal, egg powder, carrot powder, dried kelp, choline chloride, manganese sulfate, zinc sulfate, sodium selenite, vitamin e supplement, copper sulfate, niacin, iron sulfate, vitamin a supplement, vitamin d supplement, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin, biotin, folic acid, pryidoxine hcl, thiamine mononitrate, calcium iodate, cobalt sulfate, vitamin b12 supplement.
Guaranteed Analysis, As Fed
Crude Protein (Min.) 13% Crude Fiber (Max.) 1%
Crude Fat (Min.) 10% Moisture (Max.) 70%
There are other flavors but I just posted one so you can get the idea of what is included.
In your opinions, would I do just as good with the diet that I have been giving Chicken/vitamin E/Fish oil omega 3& 6/ occasional yogurt/veggies/fruits ?
Also, I believe that my dog is allergic to some type of grain. The vet suggusted corn allergies but I cut corn out and still had problems. Since I have been feeding raw chicken ~ he has not had any scratching/biting problems -
(this food has rice)
He is going to give me a few free samples to try when I go to pick up my chicken backs this week.
What do you think???

I don't know, I'll find out Wednesday. It comes in 30lb packages and is made fresh on the spot. The website doesn't give any prices .....

Try looking at the Leerburg diet and get an Idea of what that would cost you to feed and then compare what his product costs. I bet you can feed him a balanced diet at a lot lower cost.

That's a bunch of crap. Only HE can properly balance your dog's diet? It is a bit of work to make sure your dog's diet is well balanced, but not THAT much work. Remember, it's balanced "over time" not every single meal.
His stuff doesn't look horrible, but I prefer knowing where the meat is coming from. From what I could tell, he doesn't specify where he's getting all of this meat from and what the standard are. He says "quality ingredients" but even Science Diet says that! I didn't see "human grade" or a commitment to not use 4D meats. (Let me know if I missed it.)
I'm from the school of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and if you're seeing good results now then why change? It's cheaper to do it yourself and you can be sure you're getting good meat products.
This may be a fantastic food, and I'm not bashing it...but I think you'd be fine doing it yourself, too.

Usually a premade ground raw product is going to cost from 3 to 10 times what you would pay if you put together the ingredients yourself.
If you have the money for it, and your dog does well on it then for a new raw feeder it may be worth it for the convenience and peace of mind.
I don't like the dogs eating a big LUMP of mushed up food, I think it's healthier for them psychologically and physically to have to crunch up their meals. it prepares their stomach for digestion, which is where the process starts in dogs. In humans, digestion starts in the mouth....not so for dogs.
I have used various ground raw products on occasion, to add variety I couldn't get any other way or when traveling and I'm short on time to package up regular meals for my dogs.

Hmm...if I could see what he actually puts into it, and if it's cost effective, I'd be inclined to buy it...but it still wouldn't be stand alone. Of course, I cringe if I have to pay more than a dollar per pound for anything. If it were more than that I'd probably pass.
For example, I've never seen chicken necks for more than 69 cents per pound, and even that's on the high side compared to what some people find.

Yea, I am thinking that I can feed him myself for a much cheaper price.... If I can get a 40lbs of back for 26.00 and my dog is only eating 1 pound day. Even with the supplements/veggies _ I may be able to do better.... That is less then $1.00 a day
