I'm a very new trainer and I have a 8 week old male GSD. when I play with him he go's out of his way to bite my skin not the toy. When we really get going he aks like there is not even a toy, just my skin. Even when I have long sleevs on he will still jump up past the toy and grab my hand. I'm wanting to do Protection training (I'm waiting for the " Raising a working puppie" and the "Bite Training Puppies" videos) with him so I don't want to kill his drive. What do I do? why do's he do this? I don't know why he ignors the toy. But he prefers skin to anything ells. Why?
Have you tried a rolled up handtowel or dishcloth? May be easier to target than a toy...
Also good to wet these, twist them and freeze and let pup have a go at them when teething.
I'm using Leerburg's red puppie tug with the ball on the end, or some times one of those dog tuging rops. And I try not to move lots but i'm sure i'm moving more than a think I am.
I'm using a puppie tug with a ball on one end or some tomes one of those dog tugging ropes. I try not to move much but i'm sure i'm moving more than I think. But even if I just stand there with the tug hanging from my hand he will still jump up and bite my hand not the tug. I can get him to bite/play with the tug some time, and than he das good. But most of the time he still wands my skin. Like if I sit on the floor and I have a ball or something in my hand and I try to get him to bite, if i have short sleevs on he will go after my arm insted. I'm not sure what to do are what this means.
