I'm VERY new to the raw diet and I found a deer butcher in my area. Is it ok to feed my puppie wild deer, or other wild game? Should i keep my pup on a rounded diet (i.e. beef, chicken, deer, pork ext.)or can I pick one that he likes the best and use it most? And what meat is best for and what should I stay away from?
Venison is one of my favorite protein sources. During hunting season hunters will give us their deer carcasses after they take the prime meats.
Feeding a variety is key to balancing the raw diet. We usually have one main protein source (half the year it's venison and the other half it's chicken). We supplement with other meats--beef, pork, fish, tripe...
The only protein source we avoid is pacific salmon(atlantic is fine) as in it's raw state it contains a parasite deadly to dogs. All other meat is fair game here.
ditto!
my dogs love to get venison!!!
i am giving it to my 4month old pups-and have given venison to 6 week old pups before with no problem. Plus that is the only meat out of all the kinds of meat(chicken,fish,beef...) that my cats will go gaga over. I can't let it that out in the sink-they will do anything to get it.

Hi Christi,
I feed all kinds of meat and fish (staying away from the salmon already mentioned of course)
You can buy bags of Mackerel at your local grocery store. I just thaw what I need for the day in cold water and feed them whole.
I also feed venison, buffalo, elk, antelope (dogs will eat this but not with as much enthusiasm), chicken, turkey, pork and some lamb.
The hunters dropped off quite a few carcasses this year so my dogs are in Heaven right now.
I am slowly making my way to all prey model as I still give some veggies a few times a week and I also supplement The Honest Kitchen for traveling and when meat runs low.
Until The Tale of the Lioness is told, the Story will Always Glorfy the Hunter
Christi, Steve is mentally ill, but much-loved (joke). What he was trying to say to the original question is that wild game is fine. He just added a bit of sarcasm...a large bit. Of course it's entirely possible that he really does see leprechauns...
