Misha was neutered today. He is 45lbs. He has that puppy energy still (obviously). He drives my mother crazy with his energy so she decided to have him neutered. When I found out, I called the vet...but it was too late. What will happen to him? Will he become lazy? Will he loose his unbelievable prey drive that he has now? What can I do to maintain his energy/prey drive? Will he still be trainable?

no crazy protection, schutz, police work. but we would love him to be athletic and we would love to introduce more advanced training into his repertoire I just didn't want him to lose that prey drive that I feel (by reading everything here) is so essential to training. I guess neutering can be tricky too, we had our golden retriever neutered and he actually became MORE aggressive towards other dogs...
if you do a search (try the advanced search) for neutering you will probably come up with a whole bunch of answers for that question; Im told that it affects bone growth and such which is why people with working dogs dont like it done early.
Man, I can understand your being upset though, if you werent consulted..eeek.
I think you'll be fine. 45 lbs, slim, muscular sounds like he's well developed already. I doubt he will lose much if any prey drive. Take it easy for a few days of course but I wouldn't worry about it all.
Except for the fact that if this is your dog and your mother made the decision to do this without you. That's something I would make sure to sit down and discuss thoroughly with her and make sure nothing get's done to your dog without your permission.
