So I recently got a new puppy who I have dubbed Bodie and while I'm not a stranger to having male dogs this is the first who basically seems to always have his little weenus hanging out. By always I basically mean the sit, when you pick him up but otherwise the thing is retracted when he's running around.
I guess my questions to you guys is since I've not had this issue before with my boys is this normal? Worth a vet visit? Anyone else delt with this before? Can I expect him to eventually grow out of this sort of thing or should I just resign myself to having to put a boy wrap on him for when we're out an about in public rather than having to explain birds and bees to passerby children?
I hope you guys have as much fun responding to this as I have writing it. ROTFL
With my rescues, (adult males) I have noticed that the "problem" seems to wane a few months after they are neutered. (Some more than others.) In at least two of my dogs the issue almost completely stopped. So... maybe it is a testosterone thing? I don't know?? How old is your puppy?
If it *is* a male hormone thing, then I would doubt he'd grow out of it. The good news is, it's not a health issue!!
It seems like a personality thing to me. I've had intact males that did it all the time, mostly when they were excited about something, and some that didn't do it at all. My current neutered male 'let's all hang out' whenever he's fired up about something and forced to be still. Unfortunately it's usually when there's a crowd around, or during an obedience class. I've never felt that I needed to offer much of an explanation, and have never really been asked about it. I think it's more obvious to the owner than to other people. It's nothing I would consider using a wrap for, since then it would be REALLY obvious.
thats a reason I like my females...the males I have combine that embarrasing event with crumpling down and lovingly grooming themselves in said area-but only when someone is talking to or petting them or, if they are ever invited on the bed, they immediatly settle down and make snorkling noises. thats why they stay in crates when friends are over; its downright distracting.
The Vermin is adorable! so clean looking, I like his coloring

Well he is adorable but I am a fan of dogs more so than puppies. Puppies are cute but a well trained dog is truly a piece of art sculpted to a shine.
I haven't made any permanent decisions yet about Bodie. His type is good and well balanced, I couldn't ask for nicer markings, but he is big for his age imo. If he hits that dreaded 12 inch point or possibly even 11 inch he is destined for a great life as a house pet as opposed to being my possible little stud dog. So maybe having him neutered will help if that comes along. I'll let you know. :-)
