Has anyone else noticed?

Since we started feeding raw I've noticed some changes. Max has been a lot calmer during the times we have him out his crate. He used to go nuts pretty much all the time wanting to play and jump around or whine a lot. But now he will spend time just sitting or lying down near us, being quiet.
Is this a good thing - as it seems - or could it be lethargy and something we should be worried about? Has anyone else's dog had this change after switching to raw?
Also I'm pretty sure that his pee has gotten less yellow and less urine smelly. Is this normal or am I imagining things?

My dog was 6-7 months old when I switched him to raw and he had the opposite reaction....very bouncing-off-the-wall energetic, particularly right after a meal.
As for the urine, a raw diet contains more moisture than kibble so I would imagine that would dilute the urine, making it less concentrated in both color and odor. You may notice Max drinks less water on a raw diet.
Christi: runny poop may mean several things. His diet may be a little too rich, particularly if he's getting too much organ meat. If he isn't getting any digestive enzymes you may want to consider adding them. It will help his tummy adjust to the switch in diet.
You may also want to consider dropping off a fresh fecal sample at your vet's office for testing. The runny poop may be due to a bug and have nothing to do with the diet.

Also, Christi, how runny is "very runny"? Do you mean liquid or pudding?

Rhonda, I think this has happened to alot of new raw feeders. I don't have any hard facts for it. I think some use the logic of there aren't any unnecessary carbs in a raw diet. I honestly don't know, though. I guess it could be like a kid eating junk food being more hyper.
If your dog still has energy when it is time to have it, then it wouldn't concern me.(exercise, play, walks, training, etc.)
Lethargy and being mopey will be obvious. It will be a lot different than a content dog.
Content and not hyper, good. Lethargy and depression, bad. The latter will take more help than what I can give and could call for a vet's assistance.
How long have you been raw feeding?
What is a *general* menu for your dog?
I probably can't help alot, but those that can might need those answers.

Rhonda,
Along with Michaels post, I also wonder what his stools are like? Normal or no? Do you know how to check capillary refill?

I think it's been about 4 weeks since we started on raw, his stools are pretty much normal now - they were pudding for a while.
Usually we feed chicken necks, muscle meat - beef and lamb, and the occasional bit of kidney and raw egg.
And Carol I have no idea what capillary refill is, can you enlighten me?
He doesn't seem to be in any distress and he will play if we pick up a toy. It's just such a difference, it's like he's suddenly decided there's a time to play and be crazy and when it's not time he just sits or lays down nicely.
I guess he's just not acting "puppy crazy" all the time and I wasn't expecting that to stop until he was much older.

http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=0&articleid=1164
"To assess blood flow, your veterinarian may press on your pet's gums with a finger, and then release the pressure. In doing this, your veterinarian is checking your pet's 'capillary refill time.' There are many small blood vessels called capillaries in an animal's gums. When an area of the gum is pressed, blood is forced out of these capillaries. When the pressure is released, the blood should almost immediately refill the capillaries."

If something really seems to be bothering you, I would go to the vet for a look over. At least for your peace of mind.
The more seasoned raw feeders will be able to critique your diet better to see if there could be a problem there. I don't feel comfortable telling you everything is fine OR if there is a problem. I don't feel one way or the other, I just don't know.
Wish I could help more.
