So my sister wants to adopt a dog from a rescue, good. It's a PB, great! She lives in a city 60 miles away from here and it's safe to have a PB there. She is in college and will visit once a month or so. Our concern is when she travels to/through Denver what are the risks? I've done some 'googling' and according to here and here (scroll to #6, Pitbull) she can travel with him in the car (I'd say even better in a crate). But I just want to help her find as much info as she can. Even traveling through Denver in a crate, I don't trust these needle happy people to not want to take her dog, if she gets him. Does anyone know where else I can look/ask?

Alex, you could try contacting animal control and see if they can answer your questions.
I know you know this but...I can't believe it's come to this! How frickin' sad that anyone has to worry about simply paying a visit with their dog.

Alex, why would your sister want one of those vicious beasts?
Actually, if I remember correctly, I have read something about not even being able to DRIVE through Denver or parts of Ohio w/a Pit. It's something I wouldn't risk; what if she got pulled over? I looked into this when I was looking to move.

alex, if she googles pit bull forums (i don't know if i can post a link), i would bet she can find people in colorado who would be able to explain what the laws are.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses.
Sarah, I couldn't agree more. What a crock and how rediculous is it to have to do all this research just to own a certain breed.
Jenni, according to those two links above, it says exceptions are made for an animal traveling through Denver from point A to point B, which must both be outside of Denver. The second link is from the actual city & county.
Jennifer, that's a good idea. I will have to search there or I may just have to open an account and ask.
I emailed the Colorado Pitbull rescue and they told me to contact Denver's animal control. I had also read somewhere that if a dog was sezied, it will be released to the owner providing they show proof of residence where there is no ban & it is a first offense. I can't find that link though. I would still think that wouldn't happen if in the first place the dog is permitted to travel through the city and is crated. I can contact animal control here, but I also feel they might not give me an honest answer *shrug*.

honestly-i wouldn't risk it. I know of people that will go out of their way to NOT drive through Denver with their APBT.
from another board:
"The city of Denver told me to change my route that they didn't want me to even drive through with pits, and if I chose to I could be stopped and my dogs confiscated. So no I wouldn't try it."
may be over exaggerated, but still, i would not even risk my dog like that.

Maybe you can get permission from animal control (get in writing) that she may visit with her dog if she agrees to keep it muzzled. (Not the best, but might be an option?) Then she can get a humane basket muzzle to allow the dog to pant and drink.

That would be nice if they allowed that, although unlikely. Mainly our concern is for traveling through Denver as she has to drive through here to visit others. If anything, if I wanted to see the dog, I'd just meet her at someone else's house outside of the banned areas. BSl is pretty rediculous stuff.

Alex, remember how Denver first enacted their ban. I would not trust these Nazis. Period.
