My puppy dose not like playing with toys(Balls, tugs, rags, ext.) for any more than about 30 seconds. Why do you think this is?
I'v tried rolling a ball at his feet and he acts like it's not even there. If I roll it a way from him some times he will run up to it but than he wont do anything, not even bite or look at it. He will play with a tug for about 1 min. and as soon as I let him have it he will drop it, ignore it and walk away. He dose better and will play a little longer with a rag but will still and the game as soon as I give it to him. I'm not sure why he dose this?
I move the toy just like the bite training puppies video said to, but still not much interest form him. But when it comes to chasing my pant legs, or other people he will do it for hours. Why this and not a toy,? even if I hold a rag down by my leg like my pants are he will go out of his way to get my pants and not the toy. I don't understand this.

My phoenix never did.
And yes she also went for pants legs.
She is now a year and the most layed back girl in the world.
How old is the puppy
You might have a very low drive puppy
My girl likes mind games more than anything
Like sit or go find something
You might find something like that for your pup to do.
Like to stimulate her or his mind

You *might* not be putting enough prey movement in the tug or rag. You gotta make that sucker dance to get the little guys attention.
Get a buggy whip or something similar and attach the toy to the end. Have it jump around and you will probaby see a diference.
If he is dropping it when he wins it you may be letting him win too soon. Grab it and tease the heck out of him with it, make him really earn it before he wins!
Just a couple of thoughts.

Thanks, I'll try those. He dose like the rag more than anything, and I realy want to get some crazy pray drive out of him. I really want to do protcection work with him and I'm starting to fear that that may not be his thing . But I will do ANYTHING that you think will help.
Your your young dog that did the same thing, how is she doing now? and what do you do with her (pet, working)? I'm just asking cause it my help me understand.

My mixed breed puppy does the same thing. Playing with him is difficult because he does not care for any toys, but he LOVES my mittens, coat, clothing...
Fortunately I'm training for competition obedience and agility, not bitework. But it's infuriating all the same, because I'd like to play with him. He's 5 months.
Is your puppy food motivated?
I know Leerburg sells a leather bite rag, is this what you have? Maybe he will be more attracted to the leather. (hopefully).

My dogs are all sport dogs although the majority could cross over easily to PP. Heck, a couple of them would prefer it.
With some dogs you have to act a little bit crazier to bring out prey. Think of the animals a dog will chase. They are fast and sometimes hectic in their movements. Very few dogs will spend much time chasing a turtle.
I think I mentioned finding a training group on another thread. It would make things so much easier for you. Nothing like having someone show you what to do and help you along the way.
The buggy whip works good and it saves you a lot of energy.

Hey Christi,
Sometimes the interest in toys and all that great drivey behavior just kicks in a little later with some pups. Keep working at it through play and figuring out what turns him on. My dog was about 6-7 months when it finally happened...now I can't turn it off
There is another member whose GSD pup had no interest in toys. He was pretty bummed but he kept at it and one day it all clicked.
