A team at Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine conducted several studies (endnotes 1 & 2) to determine if vaccines can cause changes in the immune system of dogs that might lead to life-threatening immune-mediated diseases. They obviously conducted this research because concern already existed. It was sponsored by the Haywood Foundation which itself was looking for evidence that such changes in the human immune system might also be vaccine induced. It found the evidence.
I found this article very interesting and informative. See the result of this study here

The last paragraph really says it all.
The good news is that thousands of animal lovers (but not enough) have heard what we’ve been saying. Canine Health Concern members around the world use real food as Nature’s supreme disease preventative, eschewing processed pet food, and minimise the vaccine risk. Some of us, myself included, have chosen not to vaccinate our pets at all. Our reward is healthy and long-lived dogs.
It has taken but one paragraph to tell you the good and simple news.

I was forced to vaccinate my dog (actually it was my dad cause I had already moved to Africa)when he travelled. But here in Africa, I chose not to do the "boosters" for all the same reasons mentioned. The vet here insisted that I vaccinate my dog and the way I managed was by paying for the vaccinations and NOT doing them.

I have a question that I have to ask and thought that since there are so many threads on this already, I would just use one of these.
About 6 months ago I fostered a litter of pups from the local shelter. Now I felt reasonably competent in this because I've raised dozens of baby animals, domestic and wild, from ages 2 days old and on.
However I had the WORST time trying to keep these poor things alive.
There were 9 originally and I lost three early on. After that I kept struggling with bacteria in their stomach (probably coccidia), they would suddenly lose their appetite, dehydrate within hours and I would have to administer water through the abdomen just to keep them alive (they never went down all at once, Thank the Lord)
Now at the time I did not know about Vaccinosis but now Im starting to wonder because I've raised a litter of 2 day old kittens and never had trouble with them or any others. Here are the facts:
1.)the puppies were 2 weeks old when I got them.
2.)aside from being kept in a cement and wire, wet, outdoor (it was Novemeber) cage
3.) they were also vaccinated (3 each) and wormed.
One of them got vaccinated 2 because the person "lost count" or something to that effect.
So what are yall takes on this? It always irked me that I had so much trouble when Id never had so much before, and I thought wild, new born bunnies were difficult!

Edit reason: spelling and typos, as usual :)

Wow, this blows me away. 2 weeks old, and three shots each already??!! I would hope you meant 2 months......but even if it were 2 months, that is crazy! My pup didn't get his first shot until 9 weeks!
This just seems almost criminal to me. From the reading I have done, I can't see any reason to give pups this young ANY vaccinations, let alone 3. And to be so incometent as to "lose count"!? Wow. And these are people who work with animals for a living??!!
Sorry if I'm ranting.
Those poor babies had thier immune systems so screwed up It's a wonder you could save any of them, would be my opinion.

yes, shockingly it was two weeks....or so.
the puppies were so small, most did not have their teeth and they were still the pudgy, shapeless forms of VERY young puppies. thats why they "lost count" they had 9 sets of doses but they lady put it down and couldnt tell which it was after that (they were all white, looked like baby polar bears).
however i couldnt understand why, with good nutrition, clean enviroment, no outside exposure, that they would randomly just become ill, get over and then another would get ill.
I thought if it was a "real" disease and by disease i mean normal, that it would hit them all at once or at least close enough together but what they were getting wasnt catch-y. There was one puppy, the runt, who was with the sick puppies more than any other who never got sick or waned in any way...
may I add, even in my ignorance of the dangers, I didnt like the idea of worming and shots so early, since I know the major developments in immunites occur early on.
but they refused to release the puppies to me without it and I agreed since I was the one who came and asked if I could foster them (Id seen them and knew that they werent going to fed milk, only dog food, and allowed to die slowly because of lack of manpower and funding and mostly, knowledge of such things)
