WOW. I just had to post this and spread my joy. I have been tethering religiously. You know, the Frawley way of being the be all, end all for you dog. (I'm the one with the 6.5 mo schipperke.) I think this really helps with pack structure, etc.
Well, guess what! Tonight I let her leash loose for a few minutes to see what she would do. She walked right behind me and next to me as I went to different rooms. She waited and let me go thru doors first, etc.
I think this program really works.
Now I am wondering if I should get one of the DVD's. Are they good for small house pets, too, or are they geared more toward larger, working dogs?
Thanks, Connie. I've read almost all the ebooks and podcasts. I will double check those and re-read.
Thanks, Jenn, too. I went directly to those three links and watched/read.
Some of these I've read a couple of times. I started reading on this web site before I joined. And, it seems you see something else you missed or mixed up everytime you read them.
I'm still a little confused about the prey/play thing. When I play ball with her should I take it away from her or ask her to drop it?
I've done it both ways and I don't want to confuse her.
Should the game be to bring it to me and drop or should it be a tug of war game?

The way I teach the out is to "trade" it for a high value food reward.
When she brings the ball to you, offer her the treat. Tell her to "out" or "drop" and when she drops the ball or let's go of it in your hand (whichever you choose) she gets the reward.
Until The Tale of the Lioness is told, the Story will Always Glorfy the Hunter
Thanks, Carol. I had been having her to drop it (no reward - didn't know to do that). I would tell her that I couldn't throw it if she didn't drop it and after a few seconds/minutes she would drop it and we would play the game again. Then, I thought I read that you weren't supposed to do that, something about prey drive. So I have been taking if from her mouth.
Thanks for clearing that up.
It was confusing in that I didn't understand the difference in training for work and just a house pet. I think that is the conusing part.
ps
If you know the link or podcast where I would have read about that please post.
Thanks, again.
