Has anyone used the illusion Dog Collar. How does it work. I was thinking of purchasing it for 1 of my dogs(90 lb Doberman) .He pulls a lot on the leash and now I am pregnant, I dont want to stop walking him. I have used prong collar but his neck is long and it keeps slipping to the base of his neck. Any other suggestions
I've never used the Illusion Dog Collar, so I can't answer your questions about it. But I will say that the reason I've never used it is because the prong collar has always worked really well, IME, even on Dobes and Greyhounds.
It sounds like it's a matter of an incorrect size for the prong. The different sizes can have different link sizes, so maybe you need one size up or down?
And I'm not saying you specifically because I don't know you or your experience level, but sometimes owners are a little too cautious on how tight the prong is. Are you sure that removing a link won't help?
Apparently the quick-release prongs give people some flexibility on sizing because the clasp can be hooked to different smaller links in the mechanism. I'm not sure how I feel about that safety-wise since those links are smaller than the one designed to be hooked in and it may make it easier to come undone. I really don't know...maybe someone with a quick-release prong can answer that?
I have the quick release prong and the chain feature works well for proper fitting on my rott. I'm not concerned with the prong coming apart because I "always" have a backup collar attached whenever I walk my dog. The chain and the quick release snap are both heavy duty so I don't worry about the quality of the collar.
So the clasp fits well into the smaller links on the chain? That's good to know. I've always used the standard prongs and never really taken a close look at the quick release. It had seemed to me that the smaller links were much smaller than the one it was designed to fit into. Thanks!
If you'll notice the clasp (different from the clasp on the stainless steel model) on the left side of the picture - that baby is one well made hard closing pincher. I worried about its staying power when attached to the small links, but can honestly say I don't think it would come apart at the place where it clasps onto a small link, from experience. I believe it's much more likely for a prong link to come apart, as with any prong collar, than for the clasp to come apart.
I agree with your assessment of Laura's prong collar being too loose. The quick release will fix that, or as you said, maybe removing a prong link.
